Dear Forum members,

Hi, Need your help. I have completed my Masters degree in Chemistry. I would like to apply for PhD in Chemistry in Canada.I have an academic background of 90% in Bachelors degree and 9.7 CGPA on 10 during my Master's degree in India.I have scored IELTS 7.5 band overall. I have all other necessary documents required but I am confused about funds I need to show the visa officer. How much amount do I have to show the visa officer to satisfy him that I have sufficient funds for my PhD and living expenses ? Please suggest me the approximate amount including living expenses,if not precise.

I will be getting married soon and even my fiance will be accompanying me to canada. Then, how much should I have to show in total,i.e. for me and my spouse? Even educational consultants are not able to answer this properly. I just wanted to know the approximate amount so that I can arrange it as early as possible. Kindly help me in this query.

Thank you.

Did not you get an acceptance letter from your PhD professor/instructor/University?

are you getting some payment being on PhD? Usually students ARE PAID for their research. In your acceptance letter they should tell you the terms and price if you are not getting paid. ONLY THE UNIVERSITY can tell you about your tuition.

Overall you have to have money enough to pay tuition (if any) per year +$10,000/yr for you and $4000/yr for your wife.

Dear friends,

I am Bijaya Kumar Uprety from Nepal. I have been offered the PhD in biotechnology program in lakehead university canada for the upcoming fall session 2014. I am married for 4 months now and I do want my spouse to accompany me during my stay in Canada. I am aware that my wife and I can apply for the visa concurrently (i.e my wife for TRV and OWP visa and myself for study permit and OWP). My professor has offered me a stipend of 12000 CAD per/year and a tuition fee waiver.
My concern is how much money I need to show in my bank account to secure the visa for my dependent. Additionally, the required amount should be held in my own account or it can be held in my mother's bank account and will it be ok if my father-in-law show his bank balance?? Furthermore for how long should the bank balance be maintained before we apply for visa.
I would appreciate if you could clear these doubts.
Looking forward to your reply.

Usually for your wife you need +$4000 a year on top of your $10 000 a year. You should show as much money as you could.
It is better if money is on your bank account. Anyways your parents (yours or in-laws) should provide a letter that they support you and your wife. And some proof that they could afford it.

Hi! I need to prove funds for me and my spouse too. I'm going for a PhD in B.C (I've been admitted).
I read your posts but I don't understand if I have to show funds for all the duration of my PhD (8 years according to the University letter!) or for the first year only?
Thanks
