I had the ghost update on july 13th as well and background check still processing. Did you get the medical request?

I submitted the previous medical my wife did for her student visa via web form back in April. They marked Medical as complete in May.

I also checked on tracker and saw a ghost update on Aug 19.
Still Background check is in processing though.

IRCC is nuts. A friend of mine, September 2024 applicant who has AIP and medical requested months ago, just today got biometric request.

I would suggest applying for WP, as lately I heard that they are taking time right now to approve WP. IF that is correct, most probably your PR application will be approved before WP, and then your WP application is void, and you can ask for a refund.

Why saying to apply now is in case your spouse is working, she can work continuously without having any issues, as sometimes companies are a bit strict on these items. However, you can apply in the last two weeks of your work permit expiry and still work legally on an applied status. But sometimes companies feel uncomfortable in those situations to let you work continuously.

I would say, renew it as soon as you can to be on the safe side. It's not guaranteed that your spouse will get their PR before December 2025. The processing time now is 36 months. Although I am hopeful that you will get your PR before December 2025, I would recommend you to be on the safe side.

However, if you already got P1, then obviously, don't renew your spouse work permit!
