- No, you cannot apply for a work permit extension without a job offer or continuation of the previous job or you can try contact immigration to send Interim work autorization for 180 days
- Apply for a new open work permit before it expires If you have a valid job offer and, if required, an LMIA, you should apply for renewal before the expiration date.
- Change status to visitor If you don’t have a guaranteed job, you can apply to change your status to visitor before the work permit expires, allowing you to stay legally in Canada but without work authorization.
- Explore other immigration options Depending on your situation, you might qualify for an LMIA-exempt work permit.
- If you take no action, after expiration, you will have 90 days to restore your status, but tyou will need a new employer willing to provide a qualifying job offer

What kind of WP do you have? Thought it expired in 2026. Do you and your spouse have no economic pathways to PR? Not being able to secure PR via other means so applying for H&C is likely going to lead to many refusals.
At least we can get some kind of proper explanation via them. I got your point of view but hope keeps me motivated.
Explanation for what? Think you have unrealistic expectations of what MP’s office can do. They will only tell you your application is undergoing processing. You are well aware that IRCC has cut quotas dramatically so processing times will get longer. They can’t predict how much longer.
So okay then give us an enlightenment. What we can do instead of waiting after mentioning processing time exceeds?
What mentioned processing times especially guaranteed ones? Unless your processing times are much longer (6+ months) than others all you can do it wait. IRCC is not going to start magically processing applications faster if you claim that posted processing times have been exceeded. They have a set amount of applications that can be processed and approved every year. They have too many applications and a smaller quota so processing will get longer. Hopefully H&C reforms get done soon but not sure most also are prepared for how drastic the changes will have to be to deal with this huge mess of a program.
IRCC will update its processing time estimates, when it experiences a high volume of applications or other factors that impact processing, and these updates are reflected in the progress bar and estimated dates.
Now the processing time of H&C is 22 months

Also just wanted to share some hope in the group. I have got to know 2 families that got AIP this week that indicates IRCC running back on track. Fingers crossed

I've noticed they still giving AIP but the problem I see these last months is the stage 2 not moving at all, you can check everywhere, nothing is moving on stage 2.Also just wanted to share some hope in the group.
