Hi everyone,

I got my PR approval and I’m traveling to Canada on April 20th. For those who have already been through the process—what should I expect when I arrive? What documents should I bring? What kind of questions do officers usually ask at the airport? What documents will they give me? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Regards :)

Do you have accompanying personal-use goods? And would be bringing or forwarding any personal-use goods after your initial landing on April 20th? If so, you might also want to prepare a BSF186 form and submit it to the customs to have them stamped the form before proceed to the arrival area.

You'll need to indicate to someone you are arriving as a new permanent resident ('landing' it's often called). At some point you'll be directed to the 'secondary' examination area. Wait a bit in line probably. Then an officer will take your COPR package, your documents, ask you a few routine questions, and you and the officer will sign the form. Most of the time will either be waiting in line or waiting while the officer does 'paperwork stuff.'

Main thing is to make sure you get the COPR document - signed by each of you, some other minor stuff - and you give an address where you will receive your PR card. (Officer will keep the PR photos, or at least one of them). Then they'll say you're done and go to get your baggage and to customs if you've the forms referred to above.

That COPR document will be proof you're a PR until you get your PR card.

If the service canada office is open, you can stop in there and get a Social Insurance Number. (I forget where it is - maybe the baggage area?) If you can't, it's not a big deal, you can do it later.
