Hello everyone,

I'm a Permanent Resident in Canada and I'm applying for both Spousal PR and a Visit visa for my wife. I've almost finished the Spousal PR application and will submit it within the next 4 days. I also want to apply for a Visit visa for my wife in India.

While filling out the online application for my wife Visit visa, I had a question about the "Family Information" section. It asks, "Will your spouse/common-law partner accompany you to Canada?" The instructions say to Answer "yes" even if your spouse will join you later.

My questions are:

1. How should I answer this question? If I select "yes", it says I can't use this application for a visitor visa. Note: I won't accompanying my wife as she will come alone after receiving the visa.

2. In the "Reason for Visit" section, I selected the reason "To visit my spouse... who is a Canadian citizen, person registered under Canada's Indian Act or permanent resident of Canada." Since I selected this option, can I show my bank funds in Canada as proof of sponsorship? My wife is a student, and she doesn't have strong financial proof.

3. Can I apply for my wife's Visit visa before receiving the Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) for the Spousal PR application?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

1) Answer should be no if the husband is living in Canada.
2) Your wife should show her funds in the home country unless there's a joint account in Canada.
3) Yes, your wife can apply her visit visa before AOR for the PR application.

Thank you so much @steaky for the reply.

As my spouse is a student and not currently employed, I am concerned that IRCC might raise questions about the source of funds in my spouse's account, given her student status. Could you please clarify if it is okay show funds in her account? or do you suggest to show funds in her father account and show her Father is sponsoring her visit?.

Show her father's fund only if her dad would come with her in the same flight to Canada. Otherwise show her own funds in her account.
