Hi there,

My PGWP is expiring on feb 10 2025, currently i am working in alberta as a techincal support and I have applied LMIA last month and its not approved yet. My question is I want to extend my permit as open work permit because some saying i am eligible for work permit extension due to mine is pgwp. But, my immigration counsultant saying i can only apply for closed work permit becasue i've applied for lmia. please help me in this situation that am i eligible for pgwp extension as a open work permit,or I have to go with application as a closed workpermit.

You are not eligible for a PGWP extension as there is not such thing unless due to passport expiry. Your company filed for LMIA and right now March applications are being processed so expect another 6-8 months for a decision. Assume it is high wage.

With LMIA you apply for a closed work permit. You cannot apply for CWP with LMIA within Canada either.

Did you study in Alberta? If not only eligible for Express Entry. Tech pathway is currently closed with over 2000 in the pool waiting. Go on the Alberta site and read requirements.

I did't studied in this state, but in EOI application I can meet the techpath way requirements and my currrent score is 62 that's why i am interested but my question is for PNP, what are the chances of draws and when it can start any predictions?

Canada doesn’t have states, but provinces.

If you are looking to extend your Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), the fastest and most convenient way is to apply online. If you still want to apply on paper, you can, but I recommend checking the IRCC official website for the latest guidance.
