Hello.
I have been accepted to the University of Toronto for a fully funded PhD in Engineering.

I submitted my study permit application on December 17, 2024, but I have not received a response yet. Based on the discussions in various forums, I applied with all the mandatory documents, including the letter of funding 36k per year and a bank statement showing $5,000 USD.
In the additional information section, I included my CV, master's, and bachelor's certificates. However, I noticed that many applicants have been refused even with full funding.
Ties to home I just explain in the LOE my future project in my home.
Should I raise a webform inquiry? If so, what documents should I include to strengthen my application?
Any advice?

Where did you apply from, as it hasn’t even been 8 weeks. No documents to add as you have already applied.

Thank you for prompt response,I applied from Algeria, and the current processing time is 5 weeks.
That is just estimated average so would not count on that processing timeline. Also concerning is the only 5k in savings. Securing housing and getting to a Canada alone with that level of savings will be difficult.

The savings are just extra money for initial expenses. Is the university funding not enough?

There is a misunderstanding. I have full funding of 36,000 CAD per year, which includes annual fees, plus $5,000 USD in savings from my side to cover initial expenses.
All you can do is wait. Hopefully a postive decision. $5k USD is not a lot as you may need to cover first and last months rent, not including if you need to pay internet, utilities, food etc. Do you have a place to live because may want to start looking?

I thouht that all the funding was sufficient, but it doesn’t seem to be the case. If I had known earlier, I could have fixed it Nonetheless, there is still hope. Thank you

Think you need to look at cost of housing in downtown Toronto and flight costs. Your 5k may not even cover first and last months rent and the flight. In general Canada doesn’t try to refuse PhD candidates from very good schools unless there is a security risk but even if approved would suggest being prepared for the expenses involved with living in Toronto.

I have the ability to pay the full cost for several months. But I didnt know that I needed to include proof of funds (more than 5k). Thank you, and I hope to hear a positive response
