Missed listing Visas in the 'Residence and Tax' -> 'Immigration and Citizenship' section

Hi All,

I applied online for Canadian citizenship a few days ago and realized today after reading somewhere on these forums that we have to list all the previously held visas in 'Immigration and Citizenship' section('Do you currently, or have you ever held immigration or citizenship status in a country or territory other than Canada (this includes your country of birth)?' ). I misunderstood the question and thought we had to only include citizenship and permanent resident statuses from other countries(if any). I had work visas from the US which I did not list in this section but I did include a scanned copy of the entire passport(which include my visa stamps) in the 'other' section. I have also mentioned the scanned copy in my letter of explanation and also added a US PCC. I still haven't got my AOR yet as it is less than a week since I submitted. Can someone advise what I should do?

  • Should I do nothing as this was an honest mistake and I have already sent a scanned copy of the entire passport so they should see my visa stamps?
  • Should I Wait for AOR and then decide what to do? Is this something that they check during the AOR phase and if I get AOR then I should be fine?
  • Send a web form(right away or after AOR)? I checked the webform and it's a free form field. I don't know what should I mention here, should I just add my visa start and end dates and mention that I have already included the visa stamps in the scanned passport?
Thank you so much!

Please prepare a excel spreadsheet with each row talking about a specific immigration status and upload it a web-form and submit it. I did the same for my spouse and daughter after I had submitted their citizenship application.

If you do not get your AOR within 1-2 weeks after you sent the application something it is wrong with your application and they might not received it. Some people recommend to withdraw the application and reapply again but it is at your discretion if you decide to withdraw the application. Check your spam and junk folder and make sure the domain @cic.gc.ca it is whitelisted please do not use email with strong antispam rules such icloud. When did you apply for citizenship?

Here is a thread of someone that did not receive the AOR you can check for the recommendations of the people.

Thanks for the info! I submitted my application only a couple of days ago, so I should hopefully be fine.

@Lyra tried to sent you a msg privately regarding the Immigration and statues question on how I approached this at the time of submission. Unfortunately I am unable to send you the msg as your profile has restriction.

You should refer this link https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/application-forms-guides/guide-0002-application-canadian-citizenship-under-subsection-5-1-adults-18-years-older.html

Question 13.
Tell us if you have had immigration, permanent resident status and/or citizenship in any other country outside of Canada (e.g. your country of birth)

  • Check either “Yes” or “No”.
  • If you check “Yes”, complete the chart.
  • Tell us which countries you have held status in, and exactly what status you held or currently hold (student, employment/worker, visitor, refugee/protected person, permanent resident or citizen).
  • Provide the date you obtained each status (YYYY-MM-DD)
  • Include the end date if no longer valid, if applicable (YYYY-MM-DD). Leave blank if you currently hold this status.

I had applied for Citizenship in mid of 2021 and became a Canadian citizen mid of 2022. It was a paper based application back then.
I first tried to answer the Q13 with details about my citizenship and work/residency visa in the Middle East region, but after reviewing the info on the link above I had to rework my response in the application.

I had several visa (on arrival) for middle east countries issued over the last 10+ yrs and several visit visas issued from a few EU countries stamped on my passport

Besides the info on the application form, I included a Letter of Explanation providing a detailed break-up on these visa and reasons e.g. visa on arrival valid for xx days or visa issued by embassies/consulate stamped on my passport as another example

Now here its gets interesting or as I call it Clear as Mud ;)

For the visit visa's on arrival I had included Date of entry as visa issue date and validity date was as per the date validity of the visa and not the exit date. e.g. I visited Muscat, Oman on 1st June 2016 and exited the country on 2nd June 2016. The visa validity was 1st June 2016 and 28 June 2016 (Oman used to provide visa on arrival for 28 days, visa validity is stamped on the passport).

In case of Germany e.g. I got visa stamped by the consulate/embassy before traveling. So the visa issue and validity date would be as per the visa stamped on the passport and not the entry/exit to the country

The question 13 is about citizenship and immigration statutes and not asking for travel dates.

The issue and expiry date as per visa stamped on your passport should be included..

Ah ok, this makes sense! Thank you for the detailed information, I will keep in mind to include my visa issue and validity dates instead of entry/exit dates.

The question 13 from above it is not listed anymore under the new online application. That question it is now asked when you apply for permanent residence. Also if you were more than 183 days during the last 4 years from the date you apply you will need a police certificate from that country, they only ask if you 183 days or more in a country.

Oh that is interesting, yeah I can't remember how the question text looked like when I submitted my application. It makes sense why I missed listing vias, maybe it just asks about the citizenship info now and that is what I did. Maybe someone who have not submitted their application yet can confirm the wordings on the application.

You can download your application from the portal you submitted it and verify the questions. Just login and print the page as pdf.

That's a good point. My application pdf shows the question as "Do you currently, or have you ever held immigration or citizenship status in a country or territory other than Canada(this includes your country of birth)?" . So maybe they still mean visas here as it asks for any immigration status as well. The question looks the same as what people posted in previous threads. I see from your post history that you just got your citizenship letter, congratulations! If you don't mind, can you tell if you also were in the same boat(had work visas but did not list them for this question) and had no problems? Thanks!
