My PGWP expires soon and I really really need help to find a way to stay! Not enough points for express entry and I need two more months for 1 year experience. After asking around a few fellow students there are still no clear options so please help me.
1. Apply for PGWP extension knowing it will be rejected but I can keep working on implied status?
2. Apply for visitor visa and find a job with LMIA.
3. Try to get married and get sponsored.
4. Apply for asylum.
None of the options make any sense and would the experience under 1 even count for express entry? Please help with any information you can. It's very frustrating why Canada is limiting options now. I see people everyday who have PR and can't even communicate in English. What am I doing wrong?

How soon does your PGWP expire? One issue we seem to be seeing too frequently here is that people are waiting until the last minute to sort out their options instead of planning in advance. A PGWP has never guarantee PR.

Getting married only makes sense if you are in a genuine relationship now. Otherwise it is marriage fraud.

Applying for refugee status only makes sense if you have an actual genuine case. Otherwise this will create far more issues for you that you think it may solve.

Your best option is to apply for extension knowing it will be denied to try and get the 1 yr of Canadian experience. Doesn’t guarantee a pathway to stay or get PR. With the 1 yr experience what is your CRS score and NOC? What province do you live in? Do you know French?

Hello and thanks for replying. Did you go through this situation? With 1 year experience score will be just over 400. When I created express entry profile they rejected it immediately. Sask. and no French. Would the work experience count if I apply for extension that way? I get mixed opinions. Students should protest against these unfair practices. Someone told me the government will focus on giving PR to people who are already in Canada but how will it work if there is no path for people like me to stay? Thank you.

Thank you for replying. PGWP expires in 2 weeks. I only had 1 year pgwp. Not much time and I don't have any more money. There is a PR who can help with marriage and sponsorship but it sounds so ridiculous. My employer said they cannot sponsor but my job is permanent.

It's too bad you made the decision to take a program that only gives you a 1 year PGWP. It's much more difficult to qualify for PR with just the one year. But nothing you can do about that now.

Ultimately you've waited too long to sort this out. With only two weeks left on the work permit, the only realistic option I see is to apply to change your status to visitor before the work permit expires. You will then be able to remain in Canada a bit longer as a tourist but obviously will not be able work.

A marriage of convenience will get you a refusal and five year ban from Canada, after which it will be much more difficult to return.

If your EE profile was rejected, this means you do not meet the minimum requirements to apply or that you answered one or more question in your EE profile incorrectly.

I'm not sure what students would protest against. A study permit has never guaranteed or even promised PR.

You have two weeks left and need to make some tough decisions. Good luck.

What unfair practices ?

You came for an education. More than likely you stated in your sop how coming here would help you when you returned to your country .

There was never a promise of being allowed to stay and get PR . You’d only get PR if you qualified .

A score of just above 400 more than likely wouldn’t have gotten you PR in the past regardless

Suggesting a fraudulent marriage or fraudulent asylum claim is ridiculous

You are correct that none of those make any sense.

You have your education, so you can go home and get a great job home as you put in your sop.

Don't judge PRs who cannot communicate in English. They may be parents sponsored by their children or refugees. (those do not have language requirement)

Yes work experience will be counted but you may get rejected before 2 months. Your score is incredibly low and unless you work in some rare fields in extremely high demand like nursing (which I assume is unlikely) it will not be possible to qualify for PR with your CRS score. As already pointed out it was always incredibly difficult to qualify for PR with only one year of PGWP. Your best option is to return home and work towards trying to immigrate from your home country.

Thank you but returning is not an option. I have spent too much money here and did everything right. I never worked under the table like many other students and none of them had to leave so why me. I spoke with a consultant who has provided a good solution. Applying for PGWP on paper can get me 8 months which will be enough. I will work on SINP.

It's not a good solution. It's a desperation play that sometimes works out and sometimes doesn't. You're applying for something you don't qualify for.

Be aware that there's a decent chance you will get a refusal much sooner than 8 months. We have seen people here get refusals in 2-3 months when applying for a PGWP extension they don't qualify for. Be prepared for this possibility.

Good luck.

I have no choice but I'm not leaving before exhausting every possibility. The consultant said 2-3 months when applied online but 8 months or more when applied on paper.

How will paper extension work? You will not get notification to maintain status or continue working.

The agent said implied status works same with online or paper. It takes more time for CBSA to process paper application so it gives me more time. Do you know if I can renew driving license on maintained status? Will they ask for my wp?
