Hello,

I’m seeking advice regarding my spousal-sponsored PR application. Here’s my case:

1. On June 17, 2024, I received an email asking about my presence in Canada. I was outside Canada and shared my expected return date. I entered Canada on July 6, 2024, submitted proof of entry, and gained PR portal access on July 30.

2. I submitted my in-presence declaration, photo, and address on August 3, 2024, within the given timeline.

3. It’s been over 4 months, and I still haven’t received my eCoPR or any updates.

4. On December 24, 2024, I received a letter asking for my passport (or photocopies) and photos to finalize my PR.

I carry an Indian passport, have a valid visa to enter Canada, and am currently in Canada. However, I may not stay for more than 30 days. I am unsure about:

Whether I need to submit my original passport or if photocopies suffice.

How to proceed with document submission while I’m in Canada for a short time.

If anyone has experience with spousal sponsorship cases or advice, I’d appreciate your help!

Thanks in advance!

Try calling IRCC or asking your MP's office to help sort this out. It's been taking rather long.

[I didn't understand what you meant by 'I may not stay for more than 30 days.' If your'e leaving, that's one set of issues, if your visitor period is coming to an end, apply to extend it just in case.]

Thank you for the response.

Clarification: I have a work commitment due to which I need to travel outside Canada. My travel visa is still valid for a couple of years.

Okay. You have a slightly tricky situation, which is that if you get the eCOPR before you leave, you may have trouble boarding a flight back to Canada (PRs need a PR card or PRTD, and they should cancel your TRV, but we don't know how long it takes). You'd be able to cross at a land border no problem though.

But if you don't get it before and you get it while abroad, same issue PLUS it may cause issues if date you 'become' a PR (issue date of the eCOPR) is a day you were not in Canada.

Afraid I don't have good advice for either situation (although crossing at land border is solid, it's inconvenient).
