Hi I am currently on a closed work permit in Canada. I would like to bring my 8-year-old son to join me here. Should I apply for a visitor visa or a study permit for him? Could you please explain which option is more suitable?

Thank you for your reply. we did apply for work permit but it got rejected due to following reason, can you please advice.

• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as required by paragraph R216(1)(b) of the IRPR (https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/sor-2002-227/section-216.html). I am refusing your application because you have not established that you will leave Canada, based on the following factors:
• Your proposed length of stay in Canada is inconsistent with a temporary stay given the details you have provided in your application.
• The purpose of your visit to Canada is not consistent with a temporary stay given the details you have provided in your application.

My guess is because they are expecting a study permit application not a work for an 8 year old child. Have you applied for the study permit ?

Yes, I'm sorry for the typo, we applied her a study permit. We also provided strong ties back to home country, still unclear why it's refused.

Child doesn’t live in country of either parent, correct? if so, how can there be strong ties for child to return.
