Hi
@Miss bee ,
hoping someone can advice on general timeline or approximation based on the trends they've seen so far
My timeline
Application submitted - 23rd april 2024
AOR - Aug 16
Bio updated - Sep 3
no updates after that, i have untill dec 2025 on my wp, should I also apply for EE as a backup?
Also, i applied under OINP - international student stream, am I to stay within the same company untill i get my PR in hand?
Based on your timeline and the OINP International Student stream, here are some considerations:
1. General Processing Timeline for OINP PR Applications
• After receiving your AOR in August, the typical timeline for PR processing (especially for PNP streams) is around 12–18 months from the application submission date. Since you applied in April 2024, your application may receive finalization by mid-to-late 2025, but this can vary depending on case complexity and IRCC’s processing speed.
• It’s common for applications to have long periods without updates between the AOR and other key milestones (e.g., medical passed, background check initiation, final decision).
2. Express Entry as a Backup
• If you are eligible for Express Entry (EE), applying as a backup can be a wise move. EE applications generally process faster (6–8 months post-AOR), especially under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) or Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP).
• Since you already have a valid work permit until December 2025, you won’t face immediate status issues and can wait for updates on your current application while exploring EE as a parallel pathway.
3. Obligation to Stay with Your Employer
• Under the OINP International Student stream, you are not legally obligated to remain with your current employer while your PR application is in process. However, it’s often advisable to stay:
• To avoid complications if IRCC decides to review your eligibility against your original nomination.
• To ensure continuity and good standing with the job offer used to secure the nomination
Recommendations:
1. Monitor Your PR Application:
• Continue tracking your application via the IRCC GCKey portal and consider linking it to the PR Tracker for additional transparency.
2. Explore EE Backup:
• Check your CRS score and eligibility for EE. If competitive, creating a profile can ensure a faster path if selected.
3. Employer Flexibility:
• Staying with your employer is a safer choice, but if a change is necessary, ensure your new role aligns with the same skill type/level as your original nomination.
4. Patience with Updates:
• PR processing for PNP streams is often slower, but having a valid work permit until 2025 gives you significant flexibility.
For Job change-
Yes, if you decide to leave your current employer, you should inform your PNP office as it could impact your nomination. Here’s why and how to approach it
1. Why You Should Inform the PNP Office
• Job Offer as Basis for Nomination: The OINP International Student Stream is a job-offer-based stream. Your nomination was likely tied to the employer and job you specified in your application.
• Compliance Requirement: Most PNP programs require you to notify them of significant changes, including employment changes, to maintain the integrity of your nomination.
• Risk of Nomination Revocation: If OINP finds out about a job change independently, it could jeopardize your nomination or PR application if they believe the new job doesn’t meet the program’s requirements.
2. Steps to Inform OINP
• Contact OINP: Email the OINP office and explain the situation, providing:
• Your file number.
• Details of the new employer and job.
• Assurance that the new job is of the same skill level (NOC code) and meets all program requirements.
• Submit Updated Documents: If OINP requests proof, provide:
• A new job offer letter.
• Employer documents (e.g., LMIA exemption if applicable).
• Updated proof of residence in Ontario (if required).
3. Changing Jobs Safely
• Ensure the new job meets the OINP requirements (e.g., full-time, permanent, within Ontario, same NOC code or skill level).
• Confirm with an immigration consultant or lawyer before resigning from your current position to minimize risks.
4. Impact on PR Application
• Once your PR application is with IRCC, OINP’s role is more limited, but IRCC can still request confirmation of your nomination’s validity.
• Keeping OINP updated ensures they support your PR file if IRCC verifies your employment details.
Key Tip:
If the job change is temporary or you’re unsure about the eligibility of your new position, staying with your current employer until PR approval is the safest option.
