Hi folks, I need a suggestion. My wife has submitted information on the virtual landing Portal 2, and we have been waiting for ECOPR for a month now since 12 November 2024. I have submitted a web form, requesting them to expedite the process and also issue me a letter so we can apply for her Ontario health card. We went to Service Ontario and they said they need a letter from IRCC to apply for a health card since she qualifies for PR yet doesn't have COPR.
Did you get the AIP email? (Approved in Principle)
I've read that's what Ontario Health needs to start her coverage.

I have not received an email saying "Approved in Principal" but what I see in the email they said it is very close to finalization and the only thing pending is Canadian address confirmation, picture, and an undertaking that I have already done. received the following communication, not sure if this is AIP.

Good news! We are ready to finalize your status as a permanent resident (PR) in Canada through our secure online Permanent Resident Portal.
To complete the above you will be asked to:
  • confirm that you are currently residing in Canada
  • provide your current mailing address in Canada so that we can mail you your permanent resident card
  • upload a photo in a digital format that will be used for your permanent resident card.

I don't think there's any consistent meaning to processing office, at least in your case.

Overall I should think you've little to worry about - your timeframe is not rushed, UK coop on background checks is good, and if you've been doing the international school teaching circuit, they are aware of them and you've not been in very exotic locales anyway. More likely it will be done in advance.

And even should it get delayed somewhat beyond summer, with UK passport you can basically arrive when you like and complete the formalities later - not ideal, but not much more than an inconvenience if you're not relying on being able to work right away.
Things moved quickly. Following what looked like a ghost update on 10th December, I received a passport request letter (PPR) on 12th, received a COPR number on 12th, and the tracker was updated with background check completed, so all four sections show as completed.

The AIP email says something like, "It has been determined that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residency." The PA receives it, and you might have gotten it months ago.

Thanks! The closest letter I received as a sponsor says the following. Also, my wife applied from outside Canada and then came here on TRV. But immigration medical was done in Canada. Her application from UK London to IRCC Canada two months ago.

Dear Sir/Madam,

This refers to the Application to Sponsor a Member of the Family Class you submitted to this office on
behalf of XXXXX and family (if applicable).

We are pleased to inform that you have met the requirements for eligibility as a sponsor.

Reminder – Your undertaking is an unconditional promise of support

The undertaking you signed is an unconditional promise to financially support and provide basic
requirements for your sponsored relative(s). This undertaking is not broken by such changes as the
granting of Canadian citizenship, divorce, separation, relationship breakdown, moving to another
province, or a change in your financial situation.

Oh, I see. The application was outland. Such applications don't receive AIP.

I am a Canadian permanent resident living in Canada now. My wife is Indian and is living in India currently.
We want to submit a spousal application. However, her Indian passport has spousal information as blank since the passport was issued before marriage. Her last name hasn’t changed even after marriage.
Is it needed to have my name in her passport (as spouse name) for the application??

No, Canadian passports don't even have this info. If you think it's important to mention it (i.e. that expectation is that it will have this info), you can write a short letter of expectation that she has not had it updated yet.

I don't think it's even worth mentioning but I'm not Indian.

Thanks for taking time to write this. Gives me a bit peace of mind. Will definitely consider this option.

At the same time I request other members of this forum, who has gone through this or has knowledge of Indian scenario, to share their thoughts/ advice also.

Sure. But I repeat that I am quite certain that IRCC does not require her to have your name in her passport. The only question really is whether you feel the need to explain it.
