Understood, but if parents are on Super Visa and they apply in lottery for PR they are no longer genuine visitors? Once parents get Super visas they are not allowed to apply for PR status through PGP or other means?
Apply for PGP lottery is FINE. Many parents were on supervisa while being sponsored under PGP. And many people who applied to sponsor their parents under PGP still want to apply for supervisa while waiting for the process.

H&C is a different story. It's in a similar path as refugee.

HC and PGP are both requesting PRs correct? HC is for those who face hardship, have special circumstances, and other path for PR is not available. PGP is not available and we dont know if it's going to be available even if we are eligible sponsors. Feds need to come up with something for those Canadians who are left in Limbo and already used 10 year super visas... otherwise everyone is going through HC route..

Sorry why can’t they apply for another supervisa. They can be in the PGP pool at the same time.

I need to see an official link stating that it was EVER guaranteed one could sponsor there parents

You won’t find one , because it was never promised .
So this moronic government brought in the Supervisa , and it’s still NOT good enough

Feds don’t need to come up with anything
They already have, you’ve had it . It’s called a Supervisa
People can apply for HC all they want , and they’ll just get denied

Agreed, they should never come up with Super Visas. They should have made PGP available for all Canadians who are eligible sponsors and taxpayers. Im with you there 100%.

It used to work that way however processing times grew to 15+ years due to application volumes. There were tons of petitions and complaints to MPs to change things and limit applications to have shorter processing times. IRCC listened and the process was changed.

IRCC introduced application caps and accepted applications FIFO. This went on a few years and was a huge sh*t show (far worse than the lottery - turned into a sort of courier Hunger Games). Cue petitions. Many of those petitions asked for a lottery.

Lottery introduced and here we are a few years later today.

Their Super Visa expired, we applied for PGP (was not successful), govt does not say anything about future PGP. If they leave Canada another 10 year super visa is never guaranteed. Plus I dont want my parents to be on temporary status for 20 years... when I am eligible sponsor. Canadians in similar situation are left in Limbo. Thats why I posted here as I want to hear from other Canadians who are in similar situation.
Being eligible for PGP and actually getting selected are very different. Canada uses immigration to offset an ageing population so they can’t absorb everyone’s parents. Canada is overly generous and has allowed parents visiting on supervisas to keep extending their visits.

Don’t think anyone was advocating for unlimited parent & grandparent immigration unless they want to sponsor their own family member. The ability to visit for such long periods of time giving people the false impression that this is a permanent move to Canada is the concern with supervisas.

who on the planet earth ask for lottery system for parents and pure gambling!!! Ive been playing lottery all my life and never won anything. What are the chances I will win my parents. This is most ridiculous system Feds could come up with.

The reason people created petitions to ask for a lottery is because the FIFO approach worked so poorly. People felt the lottery would be fairer. If you had experience how badly the FIFO processed worked, it would likely make more sense to you why people petitioned for an alternative.

Your chances are roughly 1 over (number of those interested/number of places available/average size of PGP families). It's been about 10,000 individuals per year.

Here are the options, given that they are NOT going to open it up for anyone who wants and there will always be a strict numerical cap:
-a waiting list (first come first served) which will invariably and quickly grow to a 10-30 year wait;
-a lottery system;
-a 'pay against demand' system i.e. much higher fees for those willing to pay - ideally an auction, where they once every couple years let sponsors 'bid' to bring their parents in (everyone bids, they set a cut-off level for number of people, and all bids above the lowest winning bid pay the same amount).

The last would be a lot faster but probably get quite expensive. Australia has a scheme where there's a different queue for those who pay more - like $50-60k I think? - and even so the queues are many-years-long. (My wild guess is that only a fee north of $200k would come close to 'clearing' the queue, possibly $500k).

Canadian politicians generally believe that the public would be VERY upset at full-pay schemes, and that it would be akin to just more benefits for the rich. So don't hold your breath.

But those are the choices, basically: charge a lot more; make it a very long (infinite) queue; or a lottery.

When my in-laws got selected in 2017, their processing was faster than the previous Fifo PGP backlogs. We rarely playing lottery but they got selected when we rolled dice. However, we didn't experience with the FIFO.
