I applied to extend my student permit before it expires, i finished my studies, i applied for PGWP but no answer for my studies permit, can i work ?

Normally its 90 days, since you will not able to work anyway I would advice you to just apply for the PGWP right now, as the handling time for PGWP is over 150 days now, if you receive the answer for the study permit extension before the PGWP you can call the IRCC and inform them so they can update your info to receive the EXT - WP letter

The immigration team in my university has told me repeatedly that I cannot submit a PGWP application while on maintained status. So, I have been earnestly praying to get my extension approved. Based on your advice above, I am curious to know how to submit a PGWP application while on maintained status. The IMM5710 form won't accept an expired permit date because the form wouldn't validate.

So, could you please shed more light on the practicality of submitting a PGWP application while on maintained status, especially how to get the IMM5710 to validate since the original study permit is expired.

For my case since i am in QC, we have a form called Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) since I had that one still valid till December of 2024 i put that date, for your case it should not be a problem you can put a date that can get the form IMM5710 accepted and you can explain in a letter your situation, that's what i did

also you can call the IRCC just to be sure, but for me it worked

also since you got your letter of completion even if you receive your study permit extension it will not be useful since you cant use it to work , so i would say do like i did apply for PGWP to gain time and pray it get processed fast, for my case my study permit extension and PGWP got approved on the same day, if i had waited for my study permit extension i would have lost time

Hi friend I just read your query on chrome and I also have same situation can I know did u get approved ur study extension or pgwp? And when how long. Actually I applied for study extension on 8th September 2024 my permit expired on 30 September so am on maintained status right now my studies gonna completed and getting completion letter at the end of December or first week of January so wondering should I wait for extension approval or apply pgwp ? If I apply pgwp as it is I cannot work as per ircc website but I have been unemployed since last 4 months and j read that you have any cash work am currently living in Hamilton but if even I find any job In Brampton Mississauga I can do please suggest me and lemme know ur case and how long the procedure also the thing is if I apply pgwp and I get extension in between will I be able to start the work from that day? But ircc website mention that I can't work till I get pgwp approved if I do not have valid study permit on the time of I apply pgwp even I get extension approval in between. But I need to work as I have my spouse and I also extended my spouse open work permit on the same day as his expired on the same day also he got WP-EXT except pgwp letter till 12 March but I again have to extend his permit along with my pgwp for 3 years so to do so I need job offer and 3 paystubs which is the main reason I need to work mandatory so that's why I was thinking to waiting for study permit extension and apply pgwp after approved but it's been 100 days and normal processing time is 160 days 2 more months and not sure will I get under that time so suggest me what to do.
