Hello,

I applied for citizenship and it's on processing now. I applied as single. Later next month I fell in love in a girl which is my roommate. I am planning to get married to her in the future. I don't know when probably in next 2 years.
She is currently in student visa and will be applying for work permit soon. I might be sponsoring her in future for PR. I know to be a common in law partner we need to live 12 months continously. But I am confused if I need to let IRCC know I am on courtship with someone that I am planning for marriage on my citizenship application. Even if I or if didn't sponsored her in future once I marry her then she has to put my name as spouse and put the address that we are currently together. It's only been a month on my application and I proposed her. Please kindly advise. Thank you.
Since your relationship is in its early stages there is no obligation to report it to IRCC at this time.

Your roommate needs to be very careful when filing any permits because she has the same address as you do which could raise concerns about being common law. It is very hard for IRCC to determine between roommates in a relationship and partners living together.
