Not mentioning EDUCATION in STUDENT VISA

I graduated from high school in 2019 and received my diploma in Iran.

After that, I participated in our national university entrance exam and was accepted into the top-ranked university in Iran, in the field of Civil Engineering.

After about 4 semesters, I stopped studying and attending classes because I truly disliked Civil Engineering.

I am still technically a student at Sharif University, but I cannot graduate from there and plan to withdraw.

Currently, I am applying to universities in Canada for a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Computer Engineering, and I am unsure if I should mention my previous university attendance in my application.

That experience is completely unrelated to my current goals and interests, and I am planning to withdraw from the university. I am concerned about the consequences of not mentioning it in my applications to universities and visa officers.

Could you please advise me on what I should do?

Thank you very much.

It is better not to mention it, because as far as I know, they have recently set very strict restrictions for the students of Sharif University. Sharif University does not have fans in Canada like before.

Misrepresentation is an awful suggestion. A 5 year ban could hurt their ability to travel to many other countries including Canada. First of all having 2 years with no declared history after high school would raise questions. Assume their attendance could also be easily verified via various means. The big issue is that as a resident of Iran there is often a concern someone is not a genuine student and not trying to immigrate. Better idea to tell the truth and hopefully there is a good reason why you can’t transition to a computer science or computer engineering program in same university. Attending a high ranking university in Canada would also be advisable since there are clearly good comp sci & comp eng programs in Iran.

Not mentioning anything from your previous education will lead to them rejecting because they have the means to check on your entire background so wouldn't recommend to skip or not mention. Additionally, if you are trying to switch your stream from civil to computer science, it shouldn't be a problem because you are just at the start of your life so I don't think it should give you an issue however, if you chose to hide your past field, it may raise concerns which could lead to you getting rejected.
