Hi All,

I made the refugee claim, below is the timeline

1. AOC Received: 9 June 2024
2. Medical Request: 9 June 2024
3. Medical Passed: 26 June 2024
4. First Hearing, Docs Seizure and Issued Work Permit: 16 July 2024

I believe I only left with Final Hearing right? Any approximate date for the final hearing? My case was submitted when I was in Alberta. Now, I moved to BC and updated my address accordingly.

You have the final hearing step and if you are accepted then you apply for PR which has separate waiting times. The wait time for the final hearing is generally anywhere from 1-2 years although there are cases where people have their hearing sooner. Good luck.

You had an interview not a hearing. Asylum claims can take 6 months to 2+ years. It is a very long process and the system only has capacity to process ~50k applications while there was around ~250k asylum applications.

Hello, So i had my hearing on monday october 07 2024. It lasted for about 1.5hr with a 10mins break tho there were some little discrepancies like spelling on a document which i said was a typo and also on my affidavit i did not embellish my claim in anyway. at the end member asked my lawyer if he had anything to add which he did and then member said he will send a decision he said he’s decisions are usually fast and take couple of days. But its been a week and no update still. I reached out to my counsel and he said no news yet. I checked my irrc portal and its strange the referral decision doesn’t list any of the statuses it just says “Not Available” i called immigration and after asking ke series of security questions the lady told me no decision was made and they are still on paperwork i am so anxious and confused can someone please advise? I need help please thanks.

Take it easy. The decision may take at least 2-3 weeks to reach by mail, and it could take 4-5 months, yes MONTHS!! There could be various different reasons for a decision to take such a long time.

It's been only 9 days since the hearing so no need to panic.

Don't even think about it, just try to continue your regular life. It will eventually be mailed to you.

It is normal to see as "Not Available" because the decision is being prepared. It will take some time.

From what I learnt here, you will be notified first by email then you will receive the actual Notice of Decision by mail.

Just be patient.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for your feedback and positive words bless you! I called IRB office and i was told the decision was mailed out on the 9th of october 2024. No email was sent out and the lady said she doesn’t have access to decision

The office would not know when it was exactly mailed out just likely completed. The admin staff don’t go out to the mailbox or post office. Assume perhaps a few days to go through internal then gets sent out to Canadapost. Then add the long weekend factor. You should receive it by end of this week if not early next week.
