Study permit refused because of previous Australian refugee application

I was refused a study permit some months ago because of my previous refugee application in Australia which I lodged 6 years ago.
I want to reapply this month but I am scared that I will be refused again.
How do I tackle this problem?
I lodged that application based on persecution as a result of my sexuality. I live in Nigeria. But my circumstances has since changed since I lodged that application.
My motivations are very much different than they were when I applied for refuge in Australia. I don't intend to seek refuge in Canada.
I know that my chances now are extremely slim but is there a way I can surmount this mountain?

It will be difficult.

What will help your case is:
- Very strong ties to your home country (e.g., property ownership, spouse and children who are staying behind while you come to Canada)
- Subsequent travel (i.e. after he Australian refugee claim) to countries requiring visas
- High savings that more than cover the costs of your living expenses and tuition
- Strong program of study in Canada (e.g., masters or PhD at a top ranked public university)

I don't have none of those. My uncle is paying for my education and living expenses. The only home ties I have in Nigeria are familial, my mum in particular, nothing financial. I was hoping a powerfully written letter explaining how my circumstances have changed since I applied for the refugee visa, and how much my ties to Nigeria are now firmly rooted, would do the magic.

In my opinion you need much more than a letter. A past refugee claim is going to be hard to overcome.

Note that having your uncle be your financial sponsor further weakens your application. IRCC strong prefers the applicant to either have the funds themselves or for the sponsor to be an immediate family member (i.e parent).

Realistically getting any form of temporary work permit or visa will be very difficult. Your better option is to work towards applying for PR. You also mention applying for asylum 6 years ago but when did you return to Nigeria and was it willingly?

"IRCC strong prefers the applicant to either have the funds themselves" how can I have the funds myself when I'm not financially capable?

In your case it sounds like you can't. I'm just saying it makes your application weaker having your uncle sponsor you.

I get it. I will give it one more shot and do the best I can. Should I go and swear an affidavit of return in a court? Will that help?
No, don't bother. It won't help and the affidavit will carry no weigh with IRCC.
