We are nớt applying, we already have the oci it’s just the exit from country can be avoided if it’s directly converted
Hello
I am in a similar situation to you. I entered India on an eVisa and now have my OCI with me. However, I'm unsure if I can convert the eVisa to OCI without leaving the country. I'm curious about the solution you came up with.

Hi Anjali, what your outcome, can you share your experience. I'm in same boat, OCI in progress in Canada for my baby, but my wife and baby will be travelling on e(tourist visa), if I deliver OCI to them in India physically, will frro convert the visa type and no issue in exit. Because we like to stay for more than 180 days.

or is it best to convert the e-visa to Entry (X1) visa once they land?

I will tell about my case and you can decide :

1. I applied for Canadian passport and left to India on Indian passport
2. I surrendered Indian passport in India and I got surrender certificate before one week
3. I applied for stay visa and FRRO said no need of exit visa incase we get stay visa. But , I got fined 23k INR
4. I even applied OCI in India but they said to wait for 6 months and then apply. In meanwhile , I travelled canada and India thrice and no issues .
5. I am in canada now and applied for OCI here

Is stay visa same as entry(X) visa?
Actually your case is different and we know it works. Problem is for people who applied for OCI in Canada and then left to India on e-visa while OCI application was still in process. Later they got there OCI and FRRO allowed them to switch from e-visa to OCI without leaving the country but now they are saying to leave the country and re-enter with OCI.

I was told by FRRO when I applied for OCI in India that I don’t need to leave country when I get OCI and stay visa automatically gets cancelled .

Yes that works but not if you enter India with e-visa and later get OCI during your stay in India.
Not sure about your source of confirmation, but per my discussion with FRRO either e-visa or stay visa, after obtaining OCI in India, the other visas will be automatically cancelled and no need to go out of India and come back to claim the OCI status to be active.

You are talking about things after getting OCI in India. @raghupathy question was about obtaining OCI in Canada but being in India on e-visa and then getting OCI back to India via courier/relative/friend. After that FRRO is not allowing you to convert your status from e-visa to OCI while living in India. They are asking you to travel out of India and then re-enter India using OCI.

Hi, I got the OCI for my daughter in canada, I will be travelling to India this month end with physical oci. My wife and daughter already there in India. Baby entered on e tourist visa, my wife inquired when she landed with immigration officer, he said you can to go frro office or travel to another country and come back with oci. Once I reach India, probably I will exit India with daughter (e tourist exit), will either go for a short trip to dubai or srilanka and then come back to India again on Oci entry. I will let you know how this goes once done.

Hi Prashanth

Thanks for sharing the information. My wife has some similar situation and should get her visa conversion done in India. Please suggest or give some info if you know answers for the below questions.

Our Current Situation:- My wife citizenship oath is on Oct 23rd. And she has to travel to India between Nov 15th to Nov 20th and stay there for an year atleast due to some situations.

Thinking of the below plan:-
1. After oath, get Canada passport, Apply for Indian e-visa and travel to India in Nov with Canada and Indian passports.
2. Surrender the Indian passport in India. (Thinking of this because she can't get the surrender certificate in Canada before she leave to India. And it's quicker process in India).
3. After getting the surrender certificate, apply for Entry visa through e-FRRO portal.
4. Stay 6 months with entry visa and apply for OCI.

Do you think of any complications in the above plan?

Questions about your case:-

1. Just wanted to know, why did they fined you with 23k INR?
2. Any idea about the processing time for conversion of e-visa to entry visa?

I will tell about my case and you can decide :

1. I applied for Canadian passport and left to India on Indian passport
2. I surrendered Indian passport in India and I got surrender certificate before one week
3. I applied for stay visa and FRRO said no need of exit visa incase we get stay visa. But , I got fined 23k INR
4. I even applied OCI in India but they said to wait for 6 months and then apply. In meanwhile , I travelled canada and India thrice and no issues .
5. I am in canada now and applied for OCI here
