Study permit refused in 11 days of biometrics.

Info:

DLI : University Of Northern British Columbia, (Public, QS Ranking 781-790)

Level: Undergrad, Major In BSc, Computer Science

Financial Info:
- Asset Evaluation Cert : 186,983.66 CAD
- GIC: 20,709.19 CAD
- First Year Tuition: 28,331.30 (PAID)

SOP Section Pertaining to Rejection: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nvvDubwolKAw4-IFV-1ggsUni8ZUsHST/view?usp=drivesdk

Academics:

- A Level Grades : A,A,A in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science

- Got 22 credits out of required 120 to graduate just through my A Level (12th standard) Grades

The reason for rejection:

• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as required by paragraph R216(1)(b) of the IRPR (https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/sor-2002-2271 section-216.html).

I am refusing your application because you have not established that you will leave Canada, based on the following factors:

The purpose of your visit to Canada is not consistent with a temporary stay given the
details you have provided in your application.

• Based on the financial documents submitted, I am not satisfied that you have sufficient and available financial resources to pay the tuition fees for the program of studies that you intend to pursue and to pay for living expenses while in Canada.

After posting this on reddit, I was able to get the following information:
- I didn’t have affidavits signed by my parents saying that they’re gonna pay for me.
- I didn’t have my dad’s salary slips.
- I didn’t have my dad’s bank statements.
- My SOP had red flags that made it unclear whether my immigration was temporary. It also didn’t properly explain whether I had the intention to study in my home country. I will be working on that.

Are there some specifics I should target?

Hello,

I read you'r sop and was pretty much good and I think it its well written, however you never stated that you will returen to your country after finishing your studies and that will surely raise flags I think.

one questions though, the documents you have mentioned up there, are they the documents that you didnt upload or you dont have them?

I have them, I didn’t upload them because my councillor didn’t mention them at all :( I know it’s really stupid after retrospecting but I was depending on my GIC and first year tuition for finance.

Its alright, so I think that the whole reason why the application was refused, given the primary ground of rejection was regarding funding.
Try and reapply with the documents you did not upload, and emphasize more that you will leave canada after finishing your studies on your sop.

What intake are you applying to by the way?

You aren’t showing how you will pay for 3 of the 4 years. Parents need to show paystubs that can cover your tuition and living expenses ($40k+) and be able to support themselves, and any children. All their statements should be personal accounts, not business. Affidavits mean nothing if parents cannot prove they can support you financially.

Yes that’s what I meant when I said I’ll be providing my dad’s salary slips. We call pay stubs: salary slips here.

Ok. It may not be enough. As long as it shows enough for his family to live on plus support your studies. For a 4 year program, you really need to show cash in the bank for more years. Is PAL still valid?

Given it is October, you may need to defer. Check processing times and then add 15-30 days for passport stamping.

It shows enough to cover my family’s expenses here in India and enough for my education too. We already have money in a Canadian bank account in the form of a GIC.
I will also include a statement showing the intentions of liquidising my dad’s assets if needed. This statement will be signed by my dad in an affidavit.

I am applying through SDS so the timings are 20 days right now. I got my rejection in 11 days. The program’s starting in January.

Good luck. It would be better to liquidize assets now.

There are much better schools you could attend in your home country for a fraction of the cost. If you were attending a top 5 Canadian uni maybe could justify the expense but would suggest saving your money and try to attend a masters program in Canada. Not worth liquidating all your family’s savings for this school and degree.

It takes up to 8 weeks for the process for jan intake, depending on the country, he should NOT defer and try his luck, + passport stamping does not take 30 days what so ever, unless u live in fiji islands or random island in the pacific ocean

Go on to the Indian Passport stamping thread and read current timelines then. People waiting 30 days. How long did yours take for stamping?

That is estimated average so could be faster but also could be much longer. Applications from India are taking much longer to get approved these days.
