Travelling on Valid Student Visa with PGWP

Hello! Asking on behalf of my wife. Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong forum or if I should have just googled better.

I am a dual Canadian and US Citizen. My wife is a Bangladeshi citizen. We got married this year a few months ago and we're still waiting on the marriage to be actually registered with the Office of the Registrar General, so I can't submit the PR application yet.

My wife came to Canada on a Student Visa as an international student. She graduated in June 2024 and has obtained her PGWP valid till 2027. The student visa in her passport is valid until March 2025. She's currently unemployed but is looking for a job.

My work has be going to Mexico weeks at a time for supporting our customer down there, so I was thinking of bringing her along with me a few times. But I'm concerned whether she might be denied re-entry into Canada once we fly back.

The Question: Would she need to apply for a TRV and get it placed on the passport before we travel? Or can she just use her existing valid Student Visa for travel and re-entry, and then we can apply for a TRV once we're back? (I mean, the Student Visa is technically a TRV right?)

I'm asking because apparently several of her friends in a similar situation (valid student visa in passport, PGWP, but no job) was nearly denied entry because they didn't have sufficient reason to come back to Canada after a trip back home after their graduation ceremony. However I'm not sure of their full details as they didn't share everything with my wife.

Thanks in advance!

A student visa is not a TRV. She needs to be holding a valid TRV to be allowed to board the plane back to Canada.
