Hello. I'm a US student, and I want to apply to visit a family friend. However, the supporting documents section did not require the sponsorship letter and bank statement. Do I have to add them to the additional documents section, or is it not necessary?

There are no such thing as sponsorship letter. Don't waste time.

Yes include proof of your funds especially liquid funds. Include your proof of ties to the US and itinerary for your visit in Canada.
