Hi, I spent a few weeks searching for this now but couldn't find any answer.

I am currently a PGWP holder, and my company is getting me an LMIA under the Global Talent Stream (B) stream. Upon a positive LMIA, can I use this for EE and claim the 50 points immediately? My employer is saying that I need to convert my PGWP to a closed work permit first before I can claim the points, but I couldn't find any information online to confirm or contradict this.

I'm hoping to find a reliable source to confirm or contradict the statement. In my understanding, as long as the company issue a new job offer along the positive LMIA, I should be able to claim the 50 CRS points right? I don't think its necessary to convert my open work permit to a closed work permit first.

I was able to confirm that it is not required to convert to a closed work permit in order to claim the 50 points. However, you need R10 completeness check to complete before the expiry date of the LMIA. Given that this LMIA is only valid for 6 months (unlike others with longer validity), you need to get an ITA, submit the application and have IRCC complete R10 completeness BEFORE the LMIA expiry date in order to claim the 50 points.

If you are not sure whether you can complete all of these before the expiry date, then you can apply for the work permit and you get an extra 3 years of validity on your LMIA.
