Can I apply for a PRTD if my PR card is still valid?

Hei,

I have a PR card valid until the beginning of the coming December. I am accompanying my Canadian spouse abroad all the time.

We are traveling to Canada during Christmas, and hopefully I can renew my PR card during our stay. But my PR card will expire before our planned travel.

My question is whether I can apply for a PRTD now to prepare for this trip.

Thanks.

Did you ever move to Canada?

Hei,

We did not. We have been living abroad after the landing. I thought I might still be able to apply for PRTD and renew my PR card because I am accompanying my Canadian spouse.
You can try applying if you wish. If IRCC wishes to, they could dispute/refuse on basis that you never really settled in Canada at all and hence there was no 'accompanying' as never any actual move / travel out of Canada on which to 'accompany.'

Chances perhaps higher because your landing involved no residing in Canada, and likely more so if you just returned to country of origin (which it sounds like).

But no-one can say for sure.

Update here. I received IRCC request for passport to say the decision has been made for my PRTD. I hope it is a positive sign.

Would seem to indicate as such, since they've requested the passport. ;)
