The RO to keep PR is very lenient. The job market is very tough at the moment so depending on what type of work you do I would be pretty reluctant to leave a job in my field. Is there a reason you want to move to Canada?
Thanks a lot for response. You mean by lenien "cool"? In fact i had many bad luck (jobs, family, lost 20K in useless rent in canada during covid)....i'm serious, but could not get jobs (i mean matching my skills, it was harder than what i imagined because i have no local experience, degree, connections). EXACT: i was relectant to leave a decent job in My field to take a basic entry level job. My reason to move is: higher wages + nice country to leave. i'm still motivated but difficult because people usually say: it's your fault...as if i had the choice between remaining unemployed (i refuse) and employed in my home country. Do you share the opinion of the previous comments? Thanks again !!

Thank so much for your explanation ! I feel desperate ... Okay what i understand is try to go to the US then cross the border (by walk ;-) and see if the agent say go back home or welcome: if welcome, i can remain 2 years and re apply as normally. Otherwise, the second best is to give back my expired card to embassy and re apply and praying that i will not be sanctionned for the failed experience. I will not have enough points because i'm 45 but i will pass a canadian degree to gain points. It's complicated but thanks a lot for support.
Unless you have employment secured or have a skill that is in high demand in Canada starting a life in Canada at 45 is incredibly hard especially in this economy. I would not be leaving a job to be unemployed at the moment. The economy in Canada is not good and the cost of living much higher than Italy. Even renting a place to live may be very challenging. Expect to have to offer to pay 6 months in advance in many places if unemployed.

Canada’s residency obligation requires 2 years out of 5 years which is a very small amount of time thus lenient. Canadians with Canadian degrees and experience struggle to get entry level jobs so it will be much harder for someone in your position. The cost of living much higher than in most of Italy so you may actually struggle a lot more financially than in Italy.

Canada's immigration and job market are totally out of sync with each other. I am in same spot as you. I have made 4 trips to canada in total in last 5 years after getting PR and spent approx USD $15k in total living there, trying to maintain RO and finding job but couldn't get one. Had I stayed there w/o a job I'd probably be bankrupt by now.

One thing to take a risk in your 20s but in your mid 40s you could really screw up your ability to retire and put yourself in a huge financial hole.

I think the "sunk cost" fallacy looms large on all these frenzied decisions to come back to Canada to either meet PR residency obligations, or, to find ways to get into the country after not meeting them. At this point, the benefits of returning to Canada are likely outweighed by the costs of doing so unless you have absolutely no other options.

To the OP, take the suggestions/warnings from "canuck78" and "deadinside" seriously.

Having spent roughly equal amounts of time in Canada and the US, I can honestly say that Canada is not the country it once was, and many of the advantages it once offered (health care, relatively affordable housing in relation to income, etc.) no longer exist.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot. Very interesting and i'm afraid so realistic. I'm surprised by what you said: Even Canadian have difficulty to enter the job market!!!! Is it only your opinion or is it recognized by authorities? because therefore people would understand what i experienced. With two master degrees, i was treated like a high school guy.

Thanks a lot, so interesting to see a person that had EXACTLY the same destiny, we could exchange the best practices. May i have your opinion on WHY this happens? I was told that job market is hard for foreigners (no local degree and internship, no connections, no community help and sometimes discrimination and badluck..)

Thank you for your point. Sure you are right. But, i had badluck but sometime changing life makes you stronger. I will (if possible) try like 3 years and even if i launch a business because i understand that job market is not welcome for foreigners.

Thanks a lot. I really value all your comments you all guys here !!! i m very serious because i felt alone and feel better when i read your opinion. I respond:
Well, i agree with each point! i take their response very seriously. I read on the press that the number of immigrant returning home is getting stronger (cost of life, no good jobs, taxes, crazy rents ... as you said).I think US is better because the job market (i think) is relatively open for hard workers but impossible to get visa. I understand that your advice is: STAY AT HOME. What about lauching a business?

I have for you guys please two questions:
- why the agent in the US border would be more lenient that the agent in the airport? ?? so i come with a rented car or a taxi and ask to enter (finger crossed)?
- what if i have the chance to get a super interview for a top job (never happens but imagine). What should i do with ircc?
Many thanks my friends

lots of data showing high youth unemployment and that is likely underreported. Not to mention underemployment. Many businesses are not hiring because Canada is essentially in a recession.

Many thanks. Very interesting. You mean unofficially under recession. So it might be the case perhaps since covid because i found canada strong in 2019 and weak in 2022 and after.

Yes technically unofficially but if you account for population growth. Economy wasn’t that strong in 2019 either but better than now.

What makes you think that a CBSA officer at a PoE would be `more lenient'? A valid PR Card is required for the vast majority of Permanent Residents, because it is required by the commercial carrier (i.e. airline). It is NOT required by CBSA...even at an airport.
