Hi all,

My partner on July 10th received the PR portal invite and she has received the confirmation email that she confirmed her presence in Canada, address and uploading the PR card photo etc.

Her current status is implied after her 6 month visa was due to expire and we applied for visitor record.

She wants to travel with our son back to Philippines in August for 3 weeks (approx Aug 3rd-24) as we wont have a chance to travel again once the school year starts in September.

I have read that she may not be able to return to Canada without the COPR / PR card. I have also read that she could apply for a PRTD but not sure about the timing of that and also if she qualifies for one being that I have read it can only be applied from outside Canada (but some have had success inside Canada apparently).

She has a current/valid ETA but I have read that one the PR process moves forward all past travel docs are cancelled. I believe her VO is Montreal.

Could anyone shed light on what our options are? Will her current ETA be cancelled if the PR process moves forward while she is abroad? Will she have any issues getting a new ETA?

Thanks in advance.

You are correct in what you stated. A PRTD application can be submitted from within Canada, as some have verified in a handful of posts.

If her PR Card arrives, it could be couriered to her but there's always a chance that it gets lost. Some countries may prohibit PR Cards from being imported, so best to check before doing anything. Because the cards contain an RFID `chip', they are usually detected upon import.

Without having a valid PR Card, she will need a PRTD to board a commercial flight back to Canada. Alternatively, she could fly to a U.S. airport and then enter Canada in a private vehicle...which would be a PAIN!

The tricky part is when she will get her eCOPR. She needs to get it while she is inside Canada. Otherwise, it creates other complicate issues. (e.g. we saw some having issue to renew their PR card because their physical present days are AFTER their eCOPR)

I don't know how important is this trip but if she gets her eCOPR before her travel day, she could try to apply for PRTD.
Or travel via US land border if she has US visa.

Also there is uncertainty on how fast her PRTD will be processed since her trip is only for 3 weeks.
