Hi,Hello, were you able to figure out anything? I am in the same boat as you and would like to know the process you've followed?
Interesting what others who actually did that would say, but all I found is :Hi,
how did it go for you with export to USA.Can you please help understanding the process. below is my situation.
1) Bought vehicle in USA in 2013
2) Exported vehicle to Canada in 2017 , followed formal export process at boarder.
3) Now we are moving back to states and want to export the vehicle to USA.
Just want to know the process for #3 exporting vehicle to USA.
Thanks,
Vinay
Nazgul did you (or anoyne else) figure this out? I did not expect cbsa to force me to import my old us vehicles though they did. Haven't exported them yet fron the us side. Can i go back and do that now or later to avoid any problems? Thanks! Thanks, I'll try to figure this out in the next days.
My case is similar to yours. Did not export my car from US, entered Canada and did not import it in Canada. Due to my PR residency obligations, I can't travel out of Canada. Spoke with CBSA agent over Customer care line and she told me that I can complete the import process at an inland CBSA facility in Ontario but for properly exporting the car out of US, I may need to speak with IRCC and understand if I can re-enter Canada without any repercussions. So far, I have only managed to obtain a temporary license in Ontario, haven't registered my car yet. Although, I do not intend to take my car back to the US even if I were to move back in the future. Please advise.Problem is solved talked to immigration and they told me im fine.

Thanks for your reply! Let me elaborate. I completed my landing procedure on 6-Nov-2018, stayed for 3 days and went back to the States after. I then reentered Canada on 27-Nov-2018. Although my Canada PR expires on 19-Dec-2013, I was told by the border office that I was since it's been more than 3 years since my original date of landing, the only way I can retain my PR status is by not leaving Canada until I accumulate enough days to be eligible to renew my PR.What do you mean? : Due to my PR residency obligations, I can't travel out of Canada.
You can always travel out of Canada to any country that you are legally allowed to enter. Canadian PR does not stop you from traveling
Hi MoizArif,I am exactly in the same boat. I am a full-time international student in the US and wanted to enter into Canada before my CoPR expired. Here is what happened:
I have heard and read so many conflicting information as to what happens next and what if the car is driven back to the US (with no export). There are a couple of things I wish to share and ask other people to clarify.
- I entered Canada from the US in the first week of April 2020 in my own car (registered and titled on my name in NY). I had absolutely no idea about this import/export thing.
- I was told by CBSA that this car has to be imported into Canada since you are a new PR. I asked CBSA if there is any documentation required from the US, he said I only need title & registration. (Keep in mind I DID NOT export the car from the US yet).
- CBSA staff gave me no option and imported the car duty-free and gave me form 1 and RIV instructions and gave me back the title and registration.
- I paid the RIV fee, got the inspection cleared, and got the certificate in the mail.
- I have not yet gone to Service Ontario to register my car. I still have my NY state license with me.
People in the same boat as me, please share if you made any progress with this. And experienced members can comment/answer the other questions. It will surely benefit a lot of people since this is happening quite often with new PRs.
- If I drive to the US today (without registering the car in Ontario), will CBP stop me at the border? Will CBP know that this car has been imported into Canada? Will they impound or impose a fine or penalty for not exporting the car? Will my NY state title (not yet stamped as exported) be valid in the US?
- If I try to get the car registered in Ontario (without having the export stamp by CBP on my title), will service Ontario raise an objection about a missing EXPORT stamp on the title? If the registration is successful and they stamp the title as "Registered in Ontario" (or similar) will be I be able to drive back to the US and initiate the export process so that I can have the export stamped on the title?
- I have to drive to the US and Canada every now and then so I need to have a proper solution to this situation and not having to worry about this every time I cross the US border.
You can hire the third party to export your car for you. Do your homework. Or do not export at all, it does not affect you and your car in Canada.Hi MoizArif,
Can you please share if you ever actually exported the car. I am in the same boat as yours. Got stuck without actually exporting the car and now can not travel back to US due to being in H1B visa.
This process sucks!!
Any suggestions for such third party brokers? Good to know that export will not affect me in Canada, thanks Alex! You can hire the third party to export your car for you. Do your homework. Or do not export at all, it does not affect you and your car in Canada.
You just , probably, will not be able to sell the car later in US.Any suggestions for such third party brokers? Good to know that export will not affect me in Canada, thanks Alex!
In my case I surrendered twice my original Title and was given Ontario green vehicle registartion permit. I am not positive they will take a copy.Does service Ontario take your original title or just copy is fine during registration? This will allow me have more time for export process as I will need original title in hand to complete the export.
