Food Bank - Sponsor Parents

I read on this forum somewhere that Accessing Food Bank is not considered as social assistance which prevents you from sponsoring parents. I want to verify if that is true.

According to IRCC forum, Food is considered social assistance.

If accessing food bank is considered social assistance, I want to know below points.

1. How to revoke your food bank registered card?
2. Before applying for sponsorship application, how many months before you should not have taken food assistance?

No, it says 'assistance from the government' for basic needs like food. It does not say 'food bank.'

The question is which government program you got assistance under and whether in that province it is considered govt social assistance.

For the most part, the 'food banks' operated are run by a number of charities where governments of various levels may support, but don't administer them (they're basically private).

We can't tell you if your card is for a government program or not.YOu'll have to look that up.

Now all that aside: if you need help with food, you really should not be attempting to sponsor your parents.

Agree with others, if you can't afford to feed yourself, don't bring your parents over. Canada is expensive.
send money back home may provide your parents better life.

If you do not need food bank at all and is taking advantage of it, shame on you.
I volunteered at food bank and used to grow vegetable and donate to food banks before COVID when we all worked from the office.
It's a lot of love for people who need the help.

For the most part, a food bank itself would not be captured under the social assistance checks - at least most that work as private charities (even if they get some govt support). There may be exceptions, would depend on specifics.

So are you in the 2020 pool? If not, 2-3 years is not realistic. Sponsorship is not even open to new profiles so it will be many years. Even if it is open, it is lottery based so you may never be selected.

Pool hasn’t been open since 2020. They have only drawn from the 2020 since then. Right now, I think 2020 pool is around 80-100k profiles still left. IRCC may select around 30k knowing only about 15-20k will be eligible.
