Hi All,

I recently moved to Canada under work permit visa and would like to apply for a visa for my mother. Can someone guide me on which VISA I should opt for her so that she can stay for 6 months at least?

Regards,
Sahil Raina

She applies for a visitor visa. She shows her own funds, ties to return, travel history and valid reasons to travel.

You’ve gotta keep in mind . You’ll be able to stay for the period of your work permit , your mother is independent of that .

So if you feel you can’t be away from your mother long term then you might want to rethink your work permit .

Her visa is separate

Don’t know why you’re even mentioning the Supervisa, you’re just on a temporary permit .

Staying at least 6 months is essentially living in Canada. That is not really a realistic expectation on a WP. Moving to Canada isn’t a realistic option for most parents. If you get PR or citizenship then you can try to get a supervisa but that only entitles parents to visit for longer periods of time but does not guarantee they can move to Canada.

@canuck78 Can't she apply for a visitor visa for a family visit of up to six months
and I can give her an invitation letter to take care of all her expenses during her stay.

If approved for a TRV, CBSA decides how long she can stay up to 6 months. Your mother doesn’t decide. She shows her own funds to support herself. You can write a letter of invitation that she is staying with you, and that she can afford her own visit.

It is very unusual for a parent visiting on a child who is on a WP to need to visit for 6 or 6+ months. You seem to want her to move in with you in Canada. As noted she will need to show she can fund her whole visit and have to show strong ties to her home country. Would wait and see if she gets the TRV and how long one was granted. If granted a short visitor visa length she is essentially being ask to prove she is a genuine visitor. Visitor stays are up to 6 months to accommodate multiple situations but that doesn’t mean that Canada thinks that most visitors should be staying 6 months.

Hello,

I see that you moved to Canada without your mother.

Why did you abandon your mother?
