Delay in Passport Processing - Need Advice

Hi everyone,

I received my Passport Request (PPR) on May 9th, and my courier was picked up on May 15th. The last update I received was on May 21st, stating that my application has been received and is under process at the IRCC office.

Since then, I haven't received any further updates. Initially, I wasn't sure about the processing time, so I called the VFS customer care after a week. They informed me that it takes 10-12 days excluding Saturdays and Sundays. However, when I called again after not receiving any updates, I was told that it takes 21 calendar days.

Today is June 10th, and I am still waiting for the dispatch message. I am starting to get concerned about the delay and I am unsure if this is within the normal processing time frame.

Has anyone else experienced similar delays recently? Should I be worried, or is this a typical processing duration? Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Yes it is big concern for everyone nowadays. I also got PPR on 17 May and my passort was in underprocess by IRCC since 23 May. I observed some member on this group they are still waiting for 40 days. Before it took 2/3 weeks but nowadays waiting time is so long. I also already booked ticket now i am worried.

Hi Riya,
Thank you for sharing your experience. It's somewhat reassuring to know I'm not the only one facing this delay, although it's still quite stressful.
Let's hope we both get our passports soon. If you get any updates, please do share. It would be helpful for all of us in the same boat.

Thanks again for your reply!

Pls help others by telling which offices and countries the delays are for .

I am getting the impression that the delays in returning passports are all or mostly in India.

This has happened before at times of veey high student visa processing , just for India. As if the embassy put a hold on most non student visas while they met some deadline.

Don't know if this is the case now.

Thank you for raising this point. I'm currently waiting for the return of my passport from the Delhi office, having applied under a spousal sponsorship.
Understanding the scope of these delays across different regions is crucial. If members could share their experiences, particularly from various offices or countries, it would help us gain a better understanding of the situation.
Let’s remain hopeful for updates on our passports soon.

I am talking about New Delhi Visa Office and i applied under spousal sponsorship catagory. I am not sure about other visa office but dont think they took so long time as compared to NDVO.

From what I remember in previous years, the occasional delays have mostly been in India (which I think is formally 'Delhi' for spousal apps but VFS/where the visas are stamped in passports can vary i.e. really it's all of India).

It just seems that the seasonality - and urgency given academic terms - of student visas in particular means that there is a crush on and they either physically can't handle more files and/or prioritize those files (and other urgent) when those crush periods hit. It's temporary and not that long - or at least has been in past.

Of course, this is an inference made from a pattern. Could have changed. There have been other events (like the diplomatic spats) that could affect things, too.

About the only way I could think of to find out is ask at VFS if it's a busy season, but I doubt that would work except in person.

On the positive side: if I'm right, it's just temporary and should be resolved soon.

Hi.
I am also in the same timeline submitted my passport for visa processing on May 15th and its shows still under processing.
Unfortunately, I see many people whose passport submitted on May 1st is waiting on the same status, which is almost 40 days by today.
Not sure, what's the the delay in Delhi office! Feels frustrated!!

It's usually 15-30 business days (more or less than a month).

Does anyone know exactly what is happening when you send off the passport? and what happens next?
Just so we know what to expect, so we can properly book a flight.

My wife is in the Philippines, she got a notification that the passport is being "processed". What are the next notifications we should be looking out for, and what do they mean? Once it is finished being processed, how long till the passport is back in her hands? And once it is in her hands, does she now have all she needs, or are there other documents and steps we still need to finish?

Frankly if you want to be safe, wait until you get the passport back and have checked that there are no errors, etc. (Infrequent but it does happen). Specifics of how many exact days just down to local and luck, 2-4 weeks total.

When she has the passport and has checked everything is there and correct, she has everything she needs for Canada. Things that she may require to depart PH - don't know.

It takes 15 to 30 business days (more or less than a month) and it will be under processed until it's her passports turn to be stamped. I'm from the Philippines too. After that, the notification will be updated to something like "Your decision enveloped has been dispatched to the VFS". In my experience, it took exactly a month before getting my passport back. The Embassy is processing a lot of passports for different programs, give it a month.
