Hello experts,

I got the OINP nomination under CEC in November 2023. Afterwards, my spouse and I received an Express Entry invitation to apply under PNP on December 6. Our AOR is Dec 24. We didn't give medical as my previous medical was still valid under the public policy and my spouse's medical was less than a year old.
Our biometrics and medical were updated on Feb 8, 2024. On the tracker, I found everything is complete except the background check. The medical was reviewed and updated to be completed again on March 13, 2024 (CIC told me it was because my medical was more than 2 years old and therefore reviewed). Our background check on the tracker is still in progress and it's already been almost 4 months. I have called CIC a couple of times to inquire about the status update but they don't seem to know much other than what i can see on the tracker. I am getting anxious on why its taking too long for the background to be completed. What can be the probable cause for this? Has anyone been through/heard about a similar situation?

FYI, Our work permits expired on Jan 15, 2024, and we applied for the BOWP on Jan 14, 2024. The processing time for it was 4 months but it's almost 5 months and we didn't receive any updates on that. Does anyone know why there is a delay? If it is because our PR is being processed, shouldn't they still provide us with an update on the application?

Thanks for your time! Appreciate your response.

ya the PNP Background check can take longer, IRCC usually waits until it is about to breach the average processing time. It again depends if you are in one of those slow-moving offices.
BOWP do you remember the date your eligibility check was completed, usually BOWP gets approved a few weeks after eligibility check completion, as your BOWP application is past processing time you can call and ask for an update usually they try to close such applications.

I heard if someone is PNP then their EE background check doesn’t take that long since it is previously verified as well when provincial nomination is granted.
Regarding our BOWP, i cannot create an account for that on tracker and our GC key account has no update for that. There is just AOR for our BOWP. This is why i am curious on how CIC is processing our applications since we have both PR and BOWP is in process.

Sorry, I didn't tell you this very clearly earlier. Please check the date the eligibility of your PR was completed, again if you are not the primary applicant eligibility will take longer, check in the Tracker PR applicant's eligibility. usually, BOWP approval happens a few weeks after the PR application passes the eligibility check

I am the primary applicant and my PR eligibility was completed almost 3 months ago. The only thing that's long pending (almost 3.5-4 months) with our PR application is the background verification. We don't have a big travel and residential history either.

I was talking to a colleague who had similar problems with his BOWP a few months back. As he was on a closed WP, he claimed 50 points for the employer offer letter in his PR application. However, his closed WP was expiring and instead of asking the employer's immigration attorney to extend the closed WP, he tried to apply for a BOWP on his own after getting his PR AOR. His BOWP was not approved well past its processing time and his PNP class PR also took time in the eligibility stage. He applied and checked GCMS notes, he found that questions were being asked about employer-employee relationships. Finally, he made the employer's attorneys extend his closed WP and canceled his BOWP. After he uploaded his closed WP status the PR was immediately approved. I'm not sure if you fall into this category, but your eligibility in the PR application is complete, so my guess is this might not be a problem either.
Please apply for GCMS notes on the BOWP and PR application and check.
