Visitor visa still pending after 5 months (background verification)

SO applied for a tourist visa which after ordering gcms looks like it's stuck in background verification for months. Seems they were unlucky enough to get the enhanced screening which I've read could take a year or more. Is there anything we can do at this point? Would applying for a new tourist visa help, or would it get stuck again?

may i know about your complete timeline. I am stuck in this background screening. commissioner in vienna told me to wait for an answer since they have not received results from background verification. on April 25th it is going to be one year. My nationality Is Pakistani however I applied from Germany.

I applied for a visitor visa on 2nd November 2023 and Eligibility status was showing completed on 27th January 2024 and application was sent for background check since then no update. My nationality is Pakistan however I applied from China. I also have valid US visa. Can anyone tell me how long will take to complete this process?
