Quick question - kid born in Canada, has a Canadian passport. But parents born in India can get OCI. Will the kid get an OCI?
In the online form, please fill up the column related to “Relationship with the root Indian” carefully.
Herein the applicant is expected to mention the relation through which his/her Indian origin is established.
For example,
  • The applicant himself/herself was Indian Passport holder – “self” to be mentioned.
  • If Father/Mother/Grandfather/Grandmother/Spouse was Indian national – then you need to write the exact relation by which the applicant’s Indian origin is established i.e., “Father” or “Mother” “Grandfather” “Grandmother” “Spouse”

Kid will get the OCI on the basis of Parent's Indian origin status. Yes, he will definitely get the OCI, regardless of Parents have already surrendered the Indian passport or not.

Perfect! Thank you so much.

Follow up - any particular process to follow for the kid's application? Asking this because OCI requires a Surrender Certificate and if the kid is Canadian, that won't be possible.

You paid for the email service which does not exists :p
Hahaha! I knew you'd roast me.. it's a thing, I swear.

Email Updates come in play only when CGI finds an issue with our applications.

I know they won't, but, my wife and I are about to have our baby and I don't have the time or energy to deal with BLS in-person again. Plus, it's $9.. sue me!! haha

Thank you! Indeed, BLS prioritizes profit over people. Surprisingly, I felt more relieved after submitting my OCI than the day we became Canadian citizens. LOL

That is for documentation part, they will consider the marriage certificate if it indicates the date of marriage as well.

On the govt. application forms, we always need to put the date of registration.
Might be true for other forms, but OCI is not just any other form.. Also, BLS makes the rules, not CGI. Just best to stick with the marriage registration date since many applicants like me have made the mistake so you don't have to!

Just submitted my OCI application today - as commented by many peeps on this forum, the way they try to point out an error on your application (to mint more money off of you) is ingenious!
Additionally, I was under the impression that you can opt to collect OCI card in person however, you have to mandatorily opt for courier services unless you have an emergency; this is so unfair! But I am glad the hardest part is over (unless they come up with something else)

Hi! I was offered the option to pick up last week, so it's not mandatory to opt for courier. It's not worth dealing with them again and again, so it's probably the better decision to opt for courier.

well, you are lucky the person dealing with your application was better than mine!
