How would you show proof of funds without bank statements? POF must be cash. IRCC wants to see bank statements over the past 3 months at a minium to show that you can afford a visit to Canada. You don’t want to use all your savings to come to Canada. So if coming for a week, you want to show money for airfare and all expenses, and have money still left in your bank account. So if the trip costs $5k for a week then you want over $10k in your bank account over a 3 month period.

Hi Naturgrl

I have around 8000 dollars in my saving account . I was planning to submit bank certificate for that along with my pay slip and tax returns as proof of funds. I am planning to spend a week in canada and I will be staying with my friend . He is sponsoring for the food and accommodation.

He is not sponsoring you. He is inviting you. So show what you have and see what happens. Pay slips and tax returns are not proof of funds. Proof of funds are cash in the bank. You don’t have a lot of savings so looks like you are spending all money to come to Canada.

And why would you want to blow your entire savings on a one week trip ? More so when you’ve mentioned you consistently have a very low balance in your bank account. You’d have nothing in your account(s) when you return

As far as I have planned my trip would cost around 5000 dollars so I would not be spending all my money and besides it just a week trip.

That is spending all your savings…more than half. IRCC wants to see a consistent bank balance over a period of time and not using most of your savings to come to Canada for only one week. Where are you planning on going for one week only in Canada?

All you can do is apply. You may be approved but if due to funds, then you want to double the amount. So two days in Ottawa and 2 days in Niagara Falls with 2 travel days. Assume friend has a car.

Agree that it isn’t enough savings. There will also be suspicions that your friend is actually a romantic partner. It is unusual to travel across the world and spend 2/3 of your savings just to see Niagara Falls. Do you have previous international travel experience especially the the US, UK, Australia, etc. If you don’t have any travel history it is fairly unusual to start with Canada because how far it is and how expensive it is. Much more affordable travel options when you start traveling than Canada where you can see beautiful nature.
