Potential options for PR while on PGWP

Hi everyone!

Some context around my situation. I graduated earlier this year, in June, with a 4-year Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science. Also got a 3 year PGWP soon after valid until August 2026.

After a few months of job hunting, managed to secure a full time position as a Software Developer, so a TEER 1 position, in the middle of September. I currently live in Ottawa, and work in a fully remote company in a fully remote position. As in, no one in the company works in office, and the company address is basically a PO Box.

I wanted to know, what was the fastest way to secure a PR in my situation. After some research, I found that OINP Employer Job Offer: International Student stream could potentially be a good option, but not sure how the remote job situation would work. Although both me and technically the company, are based in Ontario, I can't find any information regarding it online.

The other option I saw was applying via the regular CEC route after I complete my 1 year of work experience in Sept 2024. This would get me to, I believe, 474 points, which won't be enough I suppose.

The final option would be to go via OINP Human Capital Priorities stream, which needs me to fulfill the requirements of CEC, which will be possible by Sept 2024.

In your estimation, what is the best choice here? And are there any other options I'm missing? Is there some sort of risk with OINP that I'm missing? As those 600 points seem pretty helpful.

Also would love any clarification regarding the remote work situation for OINP Employer Job Offer: International Student stream!

Would appreciate any help! Thank you :D

Explore and work towards all options. Don't just focus on one.

Start learning French now with the aim of knowing French well enough in a year to pass the French language test and get additional points (and also potentially qualify for the special draws in they are still ongoing).

They key for qualifying under the OINP Employer Job Offer: International Student stream is having your employer complete the employer forms. Many employers aren't willing to go this. Have you confirmed yours is willing? I think you should be fine with an online role provided that role is based in Ontario and your employer is based in Ontario. They key question is whether they will complete the forms. IRCC won't accept any alternatives.

Firstly, thank you for the incredibly quick response. Really grateful.

Absolutely! I do believe that 1 year mark will open up a lot more options for me, but as you said, I am open towards all these options and will be working towards them.

I have been doing Duolingo daily for the last 5 months or so, but barely any progress. Any resources you would suggest that could get me to a points-scoring level in French over the course of a year?

Haven't had a detailed conversation regarding this with the company yet, but as it is a relatively small company I do think they won't object to this, specially considering there aren't really any fees to pay on their end. They did tell me during my onboarding that they do help with the PR process, so will setup a meeting with them to talk more about this. Thanks a lot!

My biggest worry was essentially that while the company address is in Ontario, its just a PO Box and no one in the company works in office, including me. So wasn't sure about the impact that has on this OINP stream.

Really really do appreciate you taking the time to help me out, thank you once again :)
