Hello All, I need some clarification please. My parents have super Visa (pg-1) up to the validity of their passport - 4 years and 9 years. They came into Canada last week (initial entry) and the border officer stamped that they will leave in 10 months. I thought they are eligible to stay for 5 years, why where they stamped for 10 months and what can I do please. Any explanation/suggestion will be appreciated. TIA.

How long parents can stay, even on a supervisa, is at discretion of CBSA. Why did they give your parents 10 months, you will not know. Maybe your parents indicated they were only staying for a few months. Nothing to do but extend their stay in 9 months.

If you have a super visa
If you enter Canada on a super visa after July 4, 2022 and the border services officer puts a stamp without a hand written date in your passport, you can stay for 5 years.

@Naturgrl Thanks for the response. What if they travel to the States for like one week and come back, can it make any difference? Maybe get the 5 years.

They could also get denied entry so would not recommend going the US and would attempt to get an extension online. Had they been visiting Canada before this visit? If they had been visiting Canada how much time did they spend in their home country before returning to Canada? How much time have they spent in Canada in the last 5 years? What ties do they have to their home country?

Thanks. This is their first time ever in Canada.
