Does anyone know how many invitations still need to be sent out from 2020 pool?

And approximately when/which year pgp will be open for new eligible profiles?

How many years this government will just process 2020 pool?

25,000 invitations will be sent to the 2020 pool with expectation of 15000 approved PR applications.

IRCC has not said for how long they will select from the 2020 pool so don’t expect any answers until it opens up again in 2024. There will be about 100,000 still in the 2020 pool after sending out the 2023 invitations. So if they send out invites to all 2020 profiles, it could be another 3-4 years before it opens again.

In our case, this would've been our first time being eligible to have sponsored our parents with a dependent and this would've been the only opportunity for this said dependent to be included because next year she won't be eligible as dependent. It's a sad situation. So we are wondering could we go through the compassionate and humanitarian route because of this change ?

What are their reasons for H&C especially the dependant? How long have they been living in Canada? What about a study permit for dependant? Just remember it is a long process and if refused, they may never get a TRV to Canada again.

She's currently in canada, she was here for 2 years on a visitor visa and went back home for 8 months and came back as a student for the next couple years. The reasons for the H&C is more on the compassionate route because if the government would've opened the sponsorship to new applicants then we could've had a small chance to have been able to sponsor our parents with the dependant as permanent resident. But now we don't have that small chance anymore because the dependent would not be included. If they open it up to new applicants next year she won't be eligible as dependent. The student route is another route that we are taking that hopefully there's the small chance that she could become a pr even tho there's no direct path for pr. We were hoping that the H&C could've been another route that could give a small chance.

That is not a reason for compassionate that PGP is not open. And she is a student in Canada. Focus on the study route. Tell her to learn French and max out IELTS.

I honestly don't think H&C would have any real chance of being successful in this case. All she will do is chalk up an H&C refusal which will complicate future entries on study permits / work permits / visitor visas.

Best option is for her to complete her education, get Canadian work experience, etc. and eventually qualify for PR through an economic immigration stream like Express Entry.

Thank you ! She's willing to learn French. Hard part is we don't know how to go about it. Because the collage doesn't offer French courses for international student. And the other language places here only offers language class for pr and citizens and protected persons.

As others have said PGP selection was never guaranteed. Even if you did apply the chance of selection is low. There is never a guarantee that family can join a PR or citizen in Canada. Your H&C argument would be based on the small chance of being selected if EOI had reopened. With the volume of newcomers people must realize that many will not be able to bring their parents to Canada and if they do it will likely take a long time to get selected not 3 years.

Yeah, I understand which is why I said small chance. A friend of mine, their sibling took 7 years of trying before they got selected, whereas my wife's friend got selected on the first try. So I know it's a small chance. We will hope for the best for the student route for the one dependent. and hopefully next year they will open it up to new to sponsors for her parents.

Yeah, I understand which is why I said small chance.
I think the point underlying the comment that PGP itself is a small chance, is that an H&C claim derivative of not being able to participate in a new PGP lottery has very low chance of being successful. (Although H&C is a black box, the point is that there may be decent arguments for H&C, the PGP angle is not one).

I use the word lottery for a reason: it would be a bit like claiming you'd been deprived of a lottery prize because you'd been unable to buy a ticket. In the very best case, 'winning' such a claim might get you the chance to buy a ticket - not the prize itself. (And my hypothetical best case is being generous - b/c government has the authority to set the terms of the lottery in the first place)

For people who did not apply in 2020, looking at the above numbers IF system stays the same the current pool will finish in 2027 and new invitations will open again in 2028.

Do you mean new EOI submission open again in 2028? Because new invitation will continue as long as there's PGP lotteries.
