Hello Everyone,

My parents got super visa approved few months ago (approved in August 2023, they are visiting Canada in three months). Since their passport going to expire in Dec 2025, they got the super visa till Dec 2025.
My question is will they able to renew their passport before Dec 2025 while being in Canada (on Super Visa) - I think most likely yes AND also able to apply the Super Visa extension on the new passport? Or do they need to go back to home country and apply Super visa from the scratch?

Edit: country of origin: India

Thank you

Whether they can renew their home country passport from within Canada will depend on their country of origin. Generally yes, this is possible from within Canada.

You cannot extend the super visa itself. They will need to submit a new application and get the new super visa restamped in their passports once approved.

I guess that would be a new super Visa application within Canada. Isn't it the requirement that to apply supervisa, the applicant needs to be outside of Canada?

Yes they will need to apply for a new supervisa when outside of Canada. They can attempt to extend their time visiting Canada without a new supervisa. When they are unable to get an extension they will have to return home.

Hi,
My mother was issued a Super visa upto the expiry of her passport i.e Feb 2025.

She entered Canada in June 2024 and border agent said you're good for 5 years once she showed them her Supervisa insurance.

My question is: we will be applying for her new passport from within Canada. So what happens with her 5 year term that was given to her?
Can she continue to stay inside Canada for 5 years even though visa (on old passport) expires in Feb 2025?

What if she leaves Canada and wants to return before Feb 2025? can she do that? especially with visa being on her old passport? what are the chances she will be given longer term entry?

I am very confused by this whole passport and visa expiry matter and stay of 5 years and need someone who can tell from experience the right thing to do.

Thank you so much!!

visa is valid as long as the passport is. If passport is expired, you need to apply a new via.
