My Canadian citizenship certificate is on its way, but my PR is expired and I don't know how long will it take to get the canadian passport. Am I allowed to travel with my country of birth passport and use the CAN citizenship certificate to enter Canada ?

Getting passport is so fast these days. Try to get it with urgent or express.
Only if you are re-entering Canada through a US/Canada land border. Otherwise no. You won't be allowed to board the plane to Canada withouth a passport.
I had my oath on Thursday Aug 24, and I am still waiting for my e-certificate. I am flying back to my home country on Sep 9, and I am nervous about the timelines for e-certificate receipt and subsequent Canadian passport and Indian e-visa applications.
I plan to use the same day/next day urgent pickup option by paying a few bucks extra for the passport. Hopefully they deliver the e-certificate in the 2-5 business days as advertised.
