Became pregnant after PR application

Hi all,

I just have a question regarding my situation. I have already submitted an application for PR through EE, my status now shows Medical Passed and we are about to do Biometrics.

I am having a dilemma because I am now 9weeks pregnant. I know we don't need to inform IRCC about my pregnancy and I can choose to deliver the baby after we land in Canada, which would be the better plan if we are to migrate soon. However, we don't actually intend to settle in Canada right away. We plan to come back to our resident country and stay for another year or two before we migrate. I do want to deliver in Canada so that the baby will become a citizen right away, but the birth certificate and passport for the newborn will take over 2months to process and that's time that I don't have.

So my concern is - is it going to affect our chances of getting approved for PR if we decide to delay the whole PR application process by asking IRCC to wait until I deliver and add the baby as another dependent? I personally wouldn't mind the delay, but I'm worried that IRCC might choose to reject our PR application altogether.

Any advice or suggestion will be appreciated. I hope someone who went through a similar experience can share their journey.

Easy solution : Deliver the baby in Canada.
Medium : Wait until you deliver the baby and change the COPR accordingly (1 Month process)
Hard : Land, Go back deliver the baby and apply for the Visa (4-6 Months)

There is still so much to consider.
Deliver in Canada - I will need 4months inside Canada minimum before I can travel back with baby. Plus, I will need to get a private insurance first since I will not get public healthcare right away. If I choose this option, I will have to resign from my job and just migrate to Canada already. But then I will be an unemployed, new immigrant with a newborn. :(
Wait until I deliver - Once I get PR approval they say it's a whole different application for the baby.? So I need to inform IRCC before they give a decision.
Land, deliver, apply for visa - Do you mean a visit visa for the baby? I will have to sponsor him/her to get a PR too, right?

I appreciate your reply! I'm leaning more towards your Medium solution. :)

Yes they give Visitor Visa to the Baby as well which is 1-1.5 Months later you can convert it to PR but I would prefer if you delay your landing after receiving the COPR check the expiry dates. Plan your travel later and Inform them that you have a baby now they will add within 2 weeks so you all could travel.

Hi,
Sorry to ask again, but this is written on the cic page "You can’t add a child to your application if we finished processing your application and you have already become a permanent resident. " So I'm thinking if I don't inform them that I am expecting and they gave me COPR already then they will not add the baby anymore.

One addition if you are pregnant Canadian Hospitals will not deny you even if you don't have Medicare.
That's good to hear. Just no more prenatal checks right? I think emergency delivery is what they will cover for new arrivals? I'm just trying to see how much I will need to prepare. Thanks

When they send you PPR request they will ask if your situation change for example you already delivered the baby they will add him/her.

They will check everything and give you certain dates to admit in the ward. Emergency is always available for everyone without immigration status.

One additional thing you should prepare is funding. Although you have a PR, border agencies sometimes asked if you have enough money for emergency situations. They can't reject your entering just be prepared to easily overcome such minor headaches.

asking for a friend since this thread is relative: my friend who is on work permit, went to his home country and his family is blocked by TRV visas. He and his wife has TRVs but their children do not have because their IDs expired and they reapplied after renewing IDs.
Now, his wife is pregnant.
- Since he just submitted his EE application (im helping actually with this) and I wonder if he needs to inform IRCC about her wife's pregnancy.
- He cannot go to his country to help her wife or her wife cannot come without kids. Does crisis request help to expedite his kids TRV applications? He wants to send but scaring that IRCC even takes his wife's valid TRV.

It is not mandatory that he notify IRCC about his wife's pregnancy. However if the medical request comes for her or if the baby is born, then he should inform them.

He can try sending a webform to ask that the TRVs for his children be expedited but it's hard to say if IRCC will consider this.

He should not use the crisis form. IRCC will not classify this as a crisis request and will simply ignore his request. Crisis requests are for situations like war.
