Do I sound eligible for BC PNP Tech?

Hi all,

A bit of background: I am currently on an IEC which expires on July 18th. I will have achieved a years worth of Canadian skilled work experience around April/May.

I was planning on applying for CEC but it may not be until May that I will be eligible for it, once I have done my year of Canadian experience. I predict that my score may be around 470-490. Having seen the scores over the past year then it seems like I may not get invited straight away, which could mean that I could still be sitting in the pool when my visa runs out, so I started looking at BC PNP Tech, however, I'm not sure if I'd be eligible.

I am currently working in a tech job in BC - I was offered it in April 2022 and have been working in it since May 2023 - am I allowed to apply for BC PNP Tech even if I've been in the job for this long already?

Additionally, the NOC code is difficult to define for this job. I'd say it has elements of NOC 2282 - User support technicians, and also elements of 2173 - Software engineers and designers. I'd say it possibly leans more towards NOC 2282.

I do not really have any prior experience with NOC 2282, except for one job which may lean a bit more towards NOC 2282.

Am I eligible for BC PNP Tech if I do not have 1-2 years worth of experience in the same NOC as the job that my offer is in? I do however have a few years of experience in NOC 2173 - would this count as being directly related? In my opinion I'd say I definitely use a lot of the knowledge/skill from my 2173 jobs.

Read through the eligibility instructions for you and your employer. Your employer must meet certain requirements and fill out all the paperwork about recruitment for the job, number of employees, municipal business registration.

Your job offer must be for at least one year (365 days). The job offer must also have at least 120 days remaining at the time of application to the BC PNP.

Ok, by the time I have applied I'll have been in the job for around 10 months, my job will go on indefinitely (either until I leave or fired) - does that meet the requirements?

Try applying for 2282. Your experience and job description doesn't really have to be entirely fit to the ones that they have, but it would be good to have most parts of it. Just make sure that your certificates from your previous employer/s show similarities to 2282.
I suggest creating a profile now at BCPNP and you may never know when you could get an ITA. You score not only depends on your experience, but also your language, wage/salary offer, location, etc. You could also check what total score you would have and how it compares to the ones that were drawn. But Tech draws usually have lower cut-offs than the general ones.

Hey, thanks for your reply. At which point do I need to provide certificates from my previous employers? Is that part of the BC PNP Tech application or would that be when I apply for PR (CEC)? Thanks!

You would also need it when applying for PNP, since you need to declare more years of experience in BCPNP (5 or 6 max) compared to FSW (3 yrs max).

When you receive your ITA from BCPNP, you must upload all your education, career and work history documents. That's the only way to prove that you are skilled enough and qualified for the additional points from the years of experience you've gathered.
This is on top of your job offer and company documents such as their business licence, proof of recruitment, etc.

I think I'm a bit confused about the process.

I am going to apply for BC PNP Tech, get a nomination, and then apply for CEC. I thought that I only needed to provide my education & work history documents for CEC. Please let me know if you know of anywhere that shows a complete list of documents required for a BC PNP application, as I couldn't see anything mentioning needing employer certificates or work documents in the technical guide that I linked. Thanks!
