I want to adopt a child from Russia and sponsor them into Canada. Would I be able to do this if 1) I already sponsored someone before? 2) Are these types of applications done faster than lets say sponsor applications? 3) Would I need to get a social support worker if sponsoring a child?

1) You can certainly sponsor the child provided the child and you meet all of the criteria, example being that the child is an orphan. I would speak with a lawyer to make sure you take the right steps from a paperwork standpoint.
2) I believe it's possible the child may qualify for citizenship if you are a citizen. Regardless of whether it's citizenship or PR, it's not fast and you'll be looking at the better part of a year if not longer.
3) I don't know the answer to that.

Warning, check carefully - the Russian state duma continues to ban everything within sight, and has discussed banning adoptions to 'unfriendly countries' (an official thing, and Canada is one).

I don't know status of this law but even if not done so far, don't assume it will go easily.

Wow that's not good. Thanks a lot for that
I'd note, having a Russian passport as well as a Canadian one doesn't necessarily exempt one from the complications out of this - although I wont' pretend to be up to date on details. (Also may be very different if adopting a spouse's children)

As far as I'm aware in a 'local' adoption the Russian social services (or roughly equiv to child protection) will be involved for years, and they'd have a veto on some things like passport issuance and whether the child could be taken abroad, and don't know if that'd be allowed.

not saying it's not possible but would need to be informd and have a lawyer well up on it.

Thanks. I guess we have both passports. Do you know if I can still sponsor if I sponsored an adopted child already + a grandmother? Would I be at a sort of "disadvantage" when trying to sponsor a newly adopted child given I already sponsored two other people? Would the minimum income needed to sponsor hence increase as well.

Sponsoring your own dependent children is different than sponsoring parents and grandparents. You only need to show that you can support the child without govern, ent help. The bigger issue will be going through the adoption and br8nging the child to Canada. You need to consult lawyers who specialize in international adoption.
