Hi Guys, I am currently a PR living in the UK, however I intend to move Canada officially next year. I got married after I got my PR and my wife is currently pregnant here with me in the UK. I have applied for a visiting visa for her so we can atleast birth the new born in Canada. There has been no response since we applied in Septemeber 2022 for her visit visa.

You cannot sponsor your wife if you are not in Canada. Does she have the funds to give birth in Canada since she would have to pay out of pocket? She is not eligible for health care so assume you showed tens of thousands to pay for the birth. Processing is at least 5 months so she should get a response in January or February.

Thank you so much for your response. I dont intend to sponsor her yet. She has only applied to visit for now and we would then convert the TR visa as soon as i put in her sponsorship application later next year. Plus, I am eligible for health care and it should suffice for my child's birth.

You are not giving birth, she is. She is not covered as she would be a visitor. Your being PR is not relevant. Have you contacted hospitals and OBGYNs in Canada who will take her on as a visitor? She may need to pay for birth costs upfront. An uncomplicated birth will be about $10k not including ultrasounds, doctor visits, bloodwork etc.

You cannot convert a TRV. You apply for her sponsorship. She cannot work, access health or social services until she has PR.

wow, can i send you an email please??
No, sorry. She is not a PR or citizen so cannot access services. Figure out where you are moving to before the birth, and contact OBGYNs. Right now in Ontario, obstetrics units are closed and citizens are being moved to other hospitals for births. Why not give birth in the UK where assume she has coverage? If she has any complications or a cesarean then costs will skyrocket.

FYI - the birth will not be covered. You'll need to pay for everything out of pocket (too late to get insurance at this point). Make sure you are financially able to cover the costs if you go ahead with your plans and have the baby in Canada. It's very expensive without health care coverage and can become extremely expensive if there are any complications.

Thank you guys for these insightful comments. I sincerely appreciate and do not take it for granted.

So assuming we wait to birth the new born here in the UK. Would I be able to sponsor both of them to come to canada via Family sponsorship as they were not in my original application before I got the PR??

Yes, you can sponsor both of them.
You have to be in Canada to apply for a sponsorship:

If you spouse will be able to get a visitor visa, then you can apply for Inland sponsorship, however it also comes with some pros and cons:
