My spouse open work permit application which I applied on June 13 has started review eligibility and background check under process
Do you guys have an idea how long will they take to make a final decision? Thank you

Good news. Hope you're not in the same boat that I am. They are having some problems to pass people under Criminality check. Everything is passed on my file (double checked with MP and CBSA notes), just the criminality that is open for 10 months already. So, I don't know if the problem is at IRCC, RCMP or CSIS anymore.

But good luck to everyone, they should consider this time that they took to approve the PR to use as your citizenship application...
For me everything is passed, and Criminality is in progress for a month now.

When it says that you can extend your open work permit up to 4 months before it expires. Does it mean 1,2,3 or 4 months before expiry or above 4 months and not lower than 4 months?

Do you know what kind of problem they are having to pass on criminality and when it will be resolved as i am also stuck on criminality

It means there has to be less than 4 months to go before your WP expires.

So if your WP expired on Jan 1st 2023, you could apply after Sept 1st 2022.

Should I pay and submit a new 2nd CBSA request since they ignored my first one that I submitted 2 months ago? Help please
Hmm, given that I just got mine in a little over 3 weeks, I think you have a valid concern. You could submit the request again using your first payment receipt indicating that this is your second attempt & reference the details of your first request, or start from scratch & pay a second time, or write to the Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada at https://www.oic-ci.gc.ca/en/submitting-complaint (which I suspect will take longer than requesting the notes a second time).

Got my CBSA notes yesterday Nov 17 & did some research on what they mean. Here’s what I learned or confirmed (some of which has already been discussed on this forum). It may help some readers decide whether or not CBSA/GCMS notes are worth $5 and the wait:
  • There’s a lot more activity going on than we see in our account (obviously, but it was a little reassuring to know that something/anything is happening behind the scenes).
  • Different offices are performing different steps in the process, not one office or agent, and some activities have been ‘batched’ or have an automated component.
  • Since June 2021, the GCMS notes have been abbreviated to speed up IRCC’s review of information that can be released (and does not need to be redacted first). This was also done to recognize that applicants have very poor visibility of progress through their IRCC account and are thus requesting notes more frequently, which then bogs down IRCC even more. Most of the relevant information is in the 5-15 page shorter version but you can specify that you want the longer version which will take longer to process/redact and, depending on the details of your application, could be up to 300 pages. From what I’ve read, I don’t recommend the longer version unless you are in a legal battle with IRCC, perhaps over a refusal. More details here: https://www.getgcms.com/blog/new-format-of-the-gcms-notes/.
  • Interestingly, a blank under some of the Admissibility Assessments on GCMS/CBSA notes can be a good sign & doesn’t necessarily mean that nothing is happening (more detail here on how to read notes https://www.getgcms.com/blog/how-to-read-and-interpret-the-gcms-notes/ but I can’t say for certain how accurate or current their blog info is -- it seems fairly accurate after reviewing my own notes):
    • Eligibility: blank until eventually shows Passed or Failed
    • Security: will say Not Started, but a blank means ‘in progress’ or ‘passed’ (it may remain blank & reference s15/16 of the Access to Information Act somewhere on the page or the Annex page, indicating that some information was not disclosed to you, which makes sense for a variety of reasons if you care to read s15/16)
    • HIRV (Human & International Rights Violations): for most applicants this is n/a & remaining blank is good
    • Criminality: blank means 'not started', otherwise it should say In Progress or Passed
    • Org Crime: for most this is n/a & remaining blank is good
    • Misrepresentation: if there's no finding of Misrepresentation, this will remain blank
    • Medical: a blank here typically means 'not started' or 'in progress', otherwise it will show Passed or Failed
    • Info Sharing: should either say Not Started, In Progress or Complete
    • Other Reqs (Requests): should be blank unless requests were made to other offices to assist processing, or may say Cancelled if a request was cancelled
    • Final: remains blank until Approved or Refused

    • (REMEMBER, all of the above refers to GCMS/CBSA notes, not what shows on your Account.)

I think the most enlightening things I learned from my CBSA/GCMS notes received yesterday, Nov 17, (based on guidelines on how to read the notes) are:
  • Eligibility: 'Passed' in Whitehorse on August 4, even though my account still says "We are reviewing ..." :D
  • Medical: 'Passed' which is the same as on my account :)
  • Re: Background Check, my account says "We are processing ..." but notes add some detail:
    • Security: blank, therefore it is either 'In Progress' or 'Passed' (otherwise it would say 'Not Started' per guidance on reading notes)
    • HIRV (Human & International Rights Violations): blank, which is good & should stay that way
    • Criminality: 'In Progress'
    • Organized Crime: blank, which is good & should stay that way
    • Misrepresentation: blank, which is good & should stay that way
    • Info Sharing: 'Complete' :)
  • Other Requests: blank, & if no one requests info from another dept, etc., it should remain blank
  • Final: blank
Also, I learned that although my primary office is Whitehorse, secondary is Calgary. And, that a few sections have a due date of May 9, 2023, which I truly hope is not target but a maximum deadline instead.

So if your file is similar to mine, you might learn that your Eligibility is passed, a few more details in your Background Check, your processing office (though I'm not sure what good knowing that does) and a possible due date on your file (though again I'm not sure that offers much insight other than, hopefully, setting an outer limit on processing). You can decide if that's worth $5.
