Soon my parents will be landed immigrants in Ontario. As health card takes time, so for how many months they ought to be covered by health insurance, further is this insurance policy will be same /similar to supervisa insurance or different. Thanks and regards

Currently there is no waiting period for OHIP coverage in ontario. (Temporary due to covid but still in force)

They can go the day after arrival if they have the documents needed. The most specific of which is something that shows address, like a lease or insurance policy.

You are right, if you are landed immigrant, you can get health insurance after your landing. However, it takes at least a few weeks to apply and receive the health card and you do not want to go without medical advice or treatment for that long. I would recommend you to buy private health insurance in Thunder Bay to cover at least the first three months. Till then you can also try to get OHIP card by visiting local emergency room. When you apply for the insurance, you will be asked to provide the immigrants landing paper. In case your parents are staying outside the country, you can apply for international health insurance . It helps you to get coverage for emergency health issues.
Definitely can’t get an OHIP card from the ER. No need to take out private insurance for 3 months while the 3 month wait period has been waived.

Super Visa health insurance is not much different than standard emergency health insurance for visitors to Canada. The only minor difference is that some carriers will offer monthly payment plans for policies of 365 days with policy limits above $100K.
