Hi, please forgive me if this is covered elsewhere I'm new to the forum and still learning to it.

At this point, I have the provincial nomination, a work permit support letter and I applied for a work visa with these credentials. The application was received by IRCC on the 6th April, I then travelled to London and completed my biometrics on 25th April. Tomorrow it will have been 14 weeks since IRCC received my application. I regularly check the website for updates and I have heard nothing. Nothing has changed since they updated my biometrics.

After 14 weeks is this normal? Or does it seem as though there could be an issue with the application? Has anyone else experienced this? Is it possible to expedite the process? I can't seem to find a contact anywhere for an update.

I'm sorry for so many questions but any response would be appreciated, even if you're in the same position as me and having the same experience.

Thanks,
Wes

Hi Wes,

1. What is the status of the application as of today? Reviewing eligibility?

2. Unfortunately, we are seeing processing times increasing and what's on the website not always matches the real processing times. There's nothing one can do to expedite the process. You can raise a web form asking for the status of your application and why has exceeded normal processing times. this can be done here: https://secure.cic.gc.ca/enquiries-renseignements/canada-case-cas-eng.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

Hi nickgrizzly,

Thanks for your reply. I didn't know about that web form so I'm grateful for that - I will use it now. As for your question about the status of the application, literally nothing has changed since the notification saying they had received my biometrics. I've copied an pasted what it has said since April 25th:

Review of eligibility
  • Your application is in progress. We will send you a message when we start reviewing your eligibility.
Review of medical results
  • You do not need a medical exam. We will send you a message if this changes.
Review of additional documents
  • We do not need additional documents.
Interview
  • You do not need an interview. We will send you a message if this changes.
Biometrics
  • April 25, 2022 Completed.
Background check
  • We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information.
Final decision
  • Your application is in progress. We will send you a message once the final decision has been made.

Does this seem normal? One thing I didn't mention is that I have a separate paper application in which I sent around a similar time for permanent residency but I'm not expecting a response from that any time soon. Could it be that the two applications are causing some kind of conflict? Maybe when I send the web form something may come to light..

Thanks for your help,
Wes

If your application is being processed in London, it's completely normal. I've been waiting since April as have others. Most of their resources have been diverted to applications from Ukraine resulting in a backlog.

Hi Aaru9667, thanks for your message.

How do you know this? I applied from the uk and I assumed my application was being processed in Canada. This shows how little I know.

Have you deduced this from the news or do you have other sources that comfirm that this is causing the backlog? Because if it is the Ukraine situation I feel better knowing those guys are getting sorted ahead of me - it’s fair enough

The embassies have authority to process local applications (mostly visitor/work/study visas) or whatever is assigned to them to distribute the load. There is a list of 'visa offices outside canada' on the IRCC site that you can refer to. This shows which office handles the application based on where you applied from.

As for the backlog, I received a generic reply from London Immigration to one of my enquiries. They take a long time to respond btw. It also said they are prioritising work and study permits but that doesn't mean there won't be severe delays. Some of the other European offices are in the same boat since the introduction of CUAET

Okay, this is very helpful. Thank you for your advice and info. Good luck with your application.
