Hi there, I have visa-exempt foreign passport and Canadian Citizenship (still waiting for my Canadian passport to be issued). I am traveling in 3 days to Europe and planning to apply for Special Travel Authorization for the return flight to Canada. Did someone have the same experience? Did you apply for special travel authorization before your trip started or within 10 days before your return flight to CA?

I have not but as far as I'm aware these authorizations are rare, implying push-back on issuing them.
In this instance I'd suggest that applying before your trip starts risks a response along the lines of "don't travel."
But I say this without any direct knowledge, only a guess.
It's a tedious but with valid proof of travel you can get a passport the same day. When I queued up at Passport Canada, there was a guy who jumped the queue at 830 AM as he had a flight at 4PM.
Unless you have already applied for a passport, which is under process.
