Hi All,

I am due in September and plan to travel to India in December. Both parents are Canadian PR Holder and Indian Citizens. The baby won't have a Canadian passport, will she be able to come back to Canada after leaving the country? Is there any other proof I can show instead of passport to prove her citizenship status?

The baby needs a passport to travel. Why won't the baby have a Canadian passport?

We will apply for the passport asap. However, we have to travel in December and in case the baby still doesn't get the passport, what will be the alternative?

You cant travel across border without passport.
If you have tickets you can get urgent passport and try for entry visa to India

The baby will need a passport to board the flight. You should apply for urgent passport as soon as you get birth certificate if the baby. Urgent requests are delivered in a day I guess (you will need to show flight tickets i believe).

As other members already told on it, i would still add on what i know:
Book the ticket after you get the child's birth certificate as some passport officers ask the proof of travel. Walk-in into the passport office(dont go to service canada and one of the parent can apply for the child) and request the officer at the counter(inside passport office) that you need the passport in 2 weeks since you need time to apply for Indian entry visa. Surely they will. Worst case, if you dont receive the passport in 2 weeks then try to expedite by paying additional money to get the passport quicker. Start applying for passport as soon as you get the birth certificate and you would easily get the things done before the trip. You would get entry visa in a week.

Dont mail in to apply for passport. Dont apply in service canada. Just apply only in passport canada.

1. No passport, won't be able to board a flight. Needs Canadian passport to return as now a Canadian citizen.

To travel back to Canada, the child will need to get a Canadian passport. It really will be far easier if you get it first.
