Visitor visa withdrawal

Hey there,

I'm reaching out because I'm in a bit of a tricky situation.
I have been living with my partner for the past 15 months in Toronto to justify the status as common law. We were just about to start a PR application but I got some family news that are forcing me to go back to France for a short period of time. I know that to keep the common law status we must not be apart for a long time so I am thinking 3 weeks before I comeback to Canada.

I have been on a visitor visa all this time which I have extended once in August 2023. I filed an application for another extension last week but since I need to go back I just made the decision to withdraw the application since it won't be valid once I leave Canada soil.

My question is, is it possible to apply for a new visitor visa when Icomeback in 3 weeks? Since we are going to file for a PR application with my partner what should I tell the officer on how long I plan on staying? The length of the application treatment (11 months?) Last question, do I need to book a return flight? I am French so the maximum I am allowed to stay is 6 months before applying for an extension or leaving the country.

I am well aware that it's up to the officer to accept me or not at the border though.

Thank you for your time in advance,

Regards,

Dylan -

You don't need a new visitor visa to return since you are a French national. You just need to make sure you have a valid eTA.

It's best to have a return ticket.

When you arrive, you can let the officer know that you have a PR application in progress but are aware you can only enter as a visitor at this time. I would only say this if asked.

Thank you for the quick response.

What would be the date of the return ticket then? 6months since it's what I am allowed as a French national?

My name is on the lease of the house we rent here in Ajax so I have proof that I'm serious about the PR but I also know that you must only respond to the questions you're being asked.

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.
